55In my house growing up my mother
was a nazi for cleanliness. She had organization for everything. She
knew how to make the best use of any space you could think of and would
really work miracles in closets and garages. One habit that she started,
that I have never given up, was the personalized mug. Every member of
the family got to have a single mug, it could be decorated how ever
we liked. But the rule was, we used that cup for all of our hydration
needs. We did not, she insisted, need more than one cup through a day,
only a dinner did we all sit down and use glasses. Each of us knew who's
mug was who's, and we would set the table using our beloved mugs. I
don't know why it worked so well or became such a beloved habit, but
to this day I own a mug.
Truth is, I am never happy
with just one mug, I actually own a plethora of mugs. And I love it.
These aren't just dinky plastic mugs, these are designer ceramic mugs,
all of them. I have two with noses and smiley faces, one is green with
freckles, the other is pink and her handle is missing. You can get coffee
mugs pretty much anywhere you go. My best friend brought me a mug from
NY when she went on vacation. And my other friend gave me a mug for
Christmas. Collecting mugs, isn't a nasty habit, its an exciting one.
When people come over and ask if they can get a drink hand them on of
your mugs and watch the reaction. Pretty much everyone seems to enjoy
the discovery of that secret habit in your life. Its a great conversation
starter.
My favorite memories include
sitting in front of a fireplace with a mug of something delicious and
warm, and chatting away late into the night with people I love. So if
you want to put something fun in your cupboards, if you want to lessen
down on dishes or cups used, or if you want to bring yourself a little
smile in the mornings, go shopping for the perfect coffee mug for you.
If you have a favorite TV show or Movie. If you have a favorite color
or animal. Maybe you love football, or soccer. Your wishes can all be
fulfilled, you can even imagine the vast stores of coffee mugs out there.
