Visiting Algarve
57Back in September 2004 while travelling around my country (Portugal) with my better half I took some photos as usual, we do not usually go to Algarve on our holiday, however on this occasion we spend a few days over there and took advantage of the clime and the great beaches with warm waters.
I got the idea for this hub after watching some old photos in my travels album and feel the urge to share them with all of you watching.
The Algarve
Located in the south of Portugal, the Algarve has been one of the most visited places in the country by Portuguese people and foreigners. It is well known for the good weather all year round and for its outstanding warm water beaches but also for all the entertaining activities available (historical sites, outdoor sports, nightlife and the traditional Algarve cuisine).

Walking in the Algarve: 40 Coastal and Mountain Walks (Cicerone International Walking)
For many years the Algarve has not been considered as a 'real' walking destination. That opinion is rapidly changing. An increasing number of people are beginning to realize that there is far more to this area than first meets the eye - besides a spectacular and dramatic coastline, there is a huge interior that sees very few visitors.

FIESA - Sand sculptures festival 2008
We loved the Sand Sculptures Festival so much the first time that we decided to return 4 years later (2008). This time we had our little 4 years old daughter joining us and she loved it too, specially because she had the opportunity to play with sand and she even made her own sand castle.

Where to go...
One of the best entertaining activities in Algarve I would like to recommend it is the Zoomarine, an incredibly well maintain animal park with an enormous variety of creatures from marine species to reptiles and all kind of birds.
I can assure you it will be a well worthy day to escape from the beach. You will be able to see all the animals` areas, watch an interesting 3D cinema film and in the end, you could experiment the sensation of interacting with the dolphins.
That´s not all...
If you also like to admire beautiful ocean views then you must visit Algarve and look up to the Atlantic Ocean from the rocky coastline that extend for more than 200km.

Kewl funride Hey the surf is flat ;-(
Love the scenes..Life certainly looks a beach;)
Quite the sand castles...
great HUB
regards Zsuzsy
Thoroughly enjoyed roaming this hub. Good one! The pics of sandcastles in particular were fascinating. I love the work artists are doing in this area. I live on the Mornington Peninsula, in the far south of Victoria Australia. Each year, Rye beach holds a sandcastle competition based around a theme. The last one was "myths and legends". I am amazed how much intricate detail can be created with sand!
nice hub
Beautiful Algarve, seems like a must see place. :) The sand sculptures are awesome, hope they can use that creativity to create lasting structures like that.
Nice pics. I really like the sand castles!
Fantastic images! Thnx for sharing. The skill to make these sand sculptures is indeed great.
Very beautiful sand creations.....I can't believe how detailed they are! Thx for a lovely hub....Whenever I see your name, I think of the song, "Slowride" from Foghat.....showing my age, I guess.
Amazing pics! And thanks for becoming my fan.
I too love photography, but am only an amateur. Nonetheless, maybe I will post a few of mine sometime...
Thanks for the breath of fresh air!
