The Greatest Songs Ever
58
My Picks
These are the greatest songs ever — in my opinion. I took into account: music composition, lyrics, originality, vocals, and hooks.
They are in no particular order (that would be too painstaking).
Hope you like. Feel free to share your opinion in comments.

Thank you Pest.
I was looking for The Macarena that would have made this list the greatest songs eva eva!
But you're god, so I will agree and believe :D
The Macarena was number 21; just missed the list.
Darn. Several of the links are showing as disabled by request (not yours, I take it). Since taste is totally personal no one can argue with this list. It's yours! I love almost all of the artists you've chosen but I (personally) would pick different songs by those artists. As they say, to each his (or her) own! Rock on!! MM
Love these! I love One by U2. That is one of my faves! And anything by Metallica is wonderful:O)
Great hub!
Hey Cris -- I clicked on your new avatar (quite surreal) to your profile. You are becoming quite the minimalist, aren't you?
MM
At the risk of this comment being deleted by dork, being that it has no relation to his hub, let's just say i'm feeling metaphorical :D
I think I have the Macerena on one of my music hubs. I don't recall which one though.
These are good song Imadork! I like Metallica and how they bring things out in the open about society and religion and war and how people are driven around by the Master. I never heard that one before. Thanks!
MM - I fixed the 2 vids that weren't playing.
LG - Love the old Metallica! Used to be very political. "And Justice for All" album is probably the most political. Master of Puppets (the song) is about drug addiction.
Alright! Its great to know a guy who likes Madonnas song "Like a Prayer" too! I had that as one of my old school favorite hub.
very original hub
I do have to say these were some good choices, I am not a big metallica fan but the rest I can appreciate. :)
GT - Smartass!!!
AEvans - try some Metallica out, maybe you'll change your mind. Not the newer Metallica though -- they suck!
You forgot " Knockin on Heavens Door " by Bob Dylan an absolute masterpiece from the master himself. But many excellent choices here . Anything by U2 will always get both thumbs up from me . And "ONE "Is such a powerful tune ! And If I make one more suggestion " Angel " by Jimi Hendrix close your eyes and just listen to the guitar playing on that song , It Is so good It will give you chills !
Tony - I would've put "Times They Are A-Changin'" first.
Yup ! That was excellent too !
i think was looking for Gaye's what's goin on? and aretha's respect when i first came by. :D
Cris , "Respect just a little bit", R-E-S-P-E-C-T there you go , you gotta by Arethat Franklin...lolololol (((Big Hugs))
I dislike Respect and What's Going On.
Oops i forgot, this is your hub! LOL :D
dork
got it. check yours.
btw, didn't know you already have 102 fans, did u get an effing medal?!?!?! :D
Yes I did! I got 2 medals recently! 10,000 views and 100 fans.
YOU BEAT ME!!! ( I have 99 fans and I have been waiting all day to see my 100th and you beat me to it!)
Congratulations!! =)
BY THE WAY- I like the Ottis Redding, Ray Charles, Madonna and the Platters!!
Hmmm will I get a medal for 30,000 views u think?
But before you lash out on me, i'm outta here!
Great rockin' hub again!!! :D
Damn!!! I'm only half way there to 1,000 view after joining for almost a month!?
jjrubio - ha ha, I beat you! JK lol. Thanks for visiting!
Cris - Braggart!!!
Some of my favorite songs are on this list! You have great taste in music!
I like almost all of Metallica. My favorite album is Black or the cover of the tpae is black.
Thanks Shady!
LG - Black album is the last of the good ones.
I'm not a big fan of that one Pest.
OUCH!!! Really? The story behind it is awesome...well to me that is...But I find soap scum to be intriguing!
dudes dont listen to madona
raiderfan - I am confident enough in my masculinity and can listen to a Madonna song every now and then. I also listen to ABBA's Dancing Queen!
All good! I would think so, as this is the music that was around when I was younger, so much younger than today. When I never needed help in any way.
LOL...a Beatles reference! Cool!
imadork, I love your style of songs! I love the Dancing Queen song too! We need to exchange some favorite songs!
What do you think of the song Hero by Enrique Iglesias featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt
I'm not a fan of his but I like that song.
imadork I have no problem saying I like " Waterloo " by ABBA as well . I like a little variety we all have the Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple albums I am sure !
F-ing A Tony!!! I am gonna be brave now and list a bunch of bands/artists that I am usually embarrassed to admit I like:
Anne Murray, Lionel Richie, Kenny Loggins, John Denver, Debbie Gibson, Kelly Clarkson, Go-Gos, Bee Gees, Brenda Lee, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton, Jewel, Kenny Rogers.
...and dammit -- just about every one of those sad songs from animated movies chokes me up every time! Example: Somewhere Out There and Beauty and the Beast
nothing gonna change my love for you by glann is my fev one.
Wow Aniketgore!!! I forgot all about that song. Haven't heard it in years! Nice song but I would not put it on a "Greatest Songs" list.
Thanks for the reminder!
First, great hub!
Second, Metallica is depressing guy stuff- sorry.
Third, "Take It To the Limit" by the Eagles is exponentially better than "Peaceful Easy Feeling".
Fourth, TOTALLY agree with your U2, Beatles, and John Lenon picks so you've redeemed yourself there- after putting Metallica on your list.
Fifth, where is Johnny Rivers on your list? that guy has a billion awesome songs, is never on a list (except mine http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-White-Singers-With-So and he's still performing and looking great for his age.
izettl: Thanks for visiting.
Of course I disagree with your Metallica opinion. Listen to the song without a bias against heavy metal. The lyrics, complexity of composition, various changes in tempo and melody -- that's why I added the song to the list.
"Take It To the Limit" is a great song but I must dismiss it from my "great" list due to the overly long repetition of the same line at the end of the song. I hate that! Shut up and end the song already!
People seem to forget Johnny Rivers on the "great" lists. Maybe there is a reason for that. Hmmmmm.....
Are you dissin Johnny Rivers? I respect that you're bitter from my Metallica opinion. Metallica is to men like chick flicks are to women. Men don't understand chick flicks and women don't understand Metallica.
He's pleasant to listen to but that's about it.
I like some chick flicks. Chained Heat is a good one.
I read your guilty pleasure list! Anne Murray?!?!?! Do you weep when you listen to You Needed Me? And while we're on the subject, might as well throw in Debbie Boone and You Light Up My Life! LOL
Btw, I wouldn't call Chained Heat a chick flick, it's more like a chickploitation movie, a sister movie to Showgirls :D
wow, dork! great collection! :)
Cris: Yes, I have actually wept to You Needed Me. Gotta problem with that?!?!
Thanks sheenarobins!
Oh yeah? To which version, Murray's or Boyzone's?
Never heard of Boyzone. I'm sure I am better off for it too.
Good for you! And if by chance you encounter it, you'll go beyond weeping not because of the song but because of Ronan Keating! So be forewarned! :D
Great list ,just cant beat the classics and The Eagles all time fav American band.Gimme Motown too. Lately Ive been melting ,I mean toward Country.
Have you heard of any Crowded House? or a group called 'The Feelers'
Thumbs up!
I was sure I came here before, I just didn't comment. There you go!
I'm a cynic, so for me the best song ever is 'beautiful people' by marilyn manson
If I was going to pick the best Manson song it would be The Reflecting God.
FAR OUT!
Good choice! All of them are great. Thank you !
