Not only is it a refreshing beverage, it can do good for your waistline.

Green tea is all the rage right now for it has helped thousands lose weight the easy way. Though, there are really no shortcuts to healthy weight loss short of surgery today; it has been reported that some green tea products (i.e Wu-Yitm Tea) have induced 55 pounds weight loss (results not typical).

Green tea has been found to have the following compounds, which are also cancer-preventive in earlier studies

  • catechin
  • gallocatechin
  • epicatechin
  • epigallocatechin
  • epicatechin gallate
  • epigallocatechin gallate (also known as EGCG)

One of these compounds, specifically EGCG, has been an ingredient in many dietary supplements as this has been found as a potent ally against obesity.

Green tea has been found out to promote energy expenditure (contributing to weight loss) in a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The study proponents originally thought that the caffeine content in green tea may have induced weight loss in study subjects but subsequent confirmatory studies found that it might be caused by other compounds in green tea and their interaction in the human body.

Green tea, in the same study, led the researchers to believe that it may have a measurable effect on metabolism and fat reduction.
