Here she is just placed in the car - scared, but safe.
and then...they are no longer alone!
Instant friends, they comforted each other while in the car.
Add two more beagles found after that...
Oh boy, a new traveler to add to the mix...
It's going to work just fine, thank you very much!

Sherry,
It is amazing how the pets knew help was there. I really enjoyed this little "piece", I'm glad you enjoyed it too.
Susan
Nice, too bad those are animals rescued during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Susan,
My name is Jim Sutton, and I'm a school superintendent of a rural school in Iowa. I saw the great photographs, and I'd like to use them for a little possible project. There's a website called lulu.com that lets people make their own books, then put them up for sale to others. I think it has some good educational possibilities. I'd like to put these pictures into a book, write a little story about it that children could read, and run it past a strong reading teacher to make sure we're writing it correctly and readably for elementary kids. I'd be happy to make all of the proceeds go to a reputable charity to help the animals at Greensburg. I'm sure I'd need permission to use the pictures including those whose faces are in the pictures. I'd also like to talk with the people that took the pictures to get some background, either by email or on the phone. I'm hoping that if the project is successful it will inspire my teachers in a unique way to involve students in projects that utilize current events, help others, and strengthen their writing skills in a relevant way. Does this sound like something you would like to help us with by getting us in touch with the photographers? Thanks.
Jim
Jim,
Feel free to launch this project with my blessings. Wow, tough one about the the source of these pictures. A reader sent these to me weeks ago and asked me to share them. I'll see what I can find out as far as where the pictures began. I usally don't discard such information so with a bit of digging I might be able to come up with a contact for you.
Feel free to contact me at (asksusanpeters@hotmail.com).

Hi Susan. I work for an animal rescue/transport group and a few months ago I received a very detailed report on Ralpie and what happened to him after the rescue. The lady that rescued him kept him and has a blog site telling all about him with lots and lots of lovely pictures. Unfortunately, my computer did a nose dive since then and I lost all of that information. If anyone knows the name of Ralphie's rescuer, there might be a chance to locate this site. It is wonderful, and Ralphie grew into an almost pure white, long-haired coat and has the most remarkable eyes I've seen in a long time. Wonderful story and pics. Sorry that's all I have...Linda
Be careful, everyone! This EXACT same story with the EXACT same photos was sent out after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 -- you can still find the story all over the Internet.
Andrea,
We are trying to trace down Ralphie. I received this information through an email and didn't know the event had taken place during Katrina. Thanks for the info!

Susan,The pictures were taken during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and were posted by a woman who made several trips to the hurricane zone. She has hundreds of photos posted on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/danakay/ [follow the links to "My Katrina Rescue Trips" for the complete set of photos].Hope this helps,Michelle.
Michelle,
Bless you! I am so glad to get the information and link.
Susan
very cute pictures of all the doggies.... keep sending the cute pictures...
Marshall,
Glad you liked 'em.
Susan
are there still dogs available for adoption???
Karen,
I'm not sure about the pets from this disaster but if you are interested in helping out you should contact your local Red Cross and let them know you would like to adopt or provide foster care for disaster relief pets.
Susan
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I too saw these EXACT photos after Katrina!
Kickylee
I've heard several people say these photos have been used for a number of disasters. I can not say for sure when the photos were taken since this was just an email I received. I feel like the pictures are worth a thousand words - no matter when they were taken.
Susan
How can we adopt a tornado rescue dog?
Cameron,
Contact your local Red Cross to let them know you are willing to help with pet "disaster relief" they should be able to let you know what pets are needing homes or who to contact.
So kind of you to want to help out!
Susan

Hi Susan, What a heart warming picture of the dogs and cats. It's amazing how they know! We should all take a good hard look at the photo and learn from it.
