Grenada West Indies
65a taste of whats to come on my hubs featuring 'the isle of spice'
Grenada West Indies.. . is called 'the isle of spice' because of the many spices that is grown here. These spices include cloves, cinnamon, spice, nutmeg and many many more. Grenada is not very large (344 km² )but we make up for our size by the many other wonderful things we do have.We are indeed famous for the friendliness of our people(with an estimated population of 110,000), our beautiful scenaries,a rich heritage, delicious foods and so much more.
You might consider Grenada an unspoilt haven, with its glorious waterfalls, hot sulphur springs, crater lakes and marvellous beaches. Grenada is the kind of place once you've been here nowhere else can compare.
And the food, don't get me started, our national dish is called oil down:
The "oildown" is considered to be the national dish. The phrase "oil-down" refers to a dish cooked in coconut milk until all the milk is absorbed, leaving a bit of coconut oil in the bottom of the pot. Early recipes call for a mixture of pigs feet (trotters), salted pigtail, salt beef and chicken, provision: Breadfruit, green banana, yam and potatoes ,dumplings made from flour, . Callaloo leaves are some times used to retain the steam and for extra flavour.
This dish is a common tradition at family and other gatherings at the beach, There is a modest debate in the West Indies about the origin of this dish, with some experts attributing it to other islands like Barbados or Trinidad & Tobago.
We also have other great dishes such as palau, lambi waters, saltfish souce and provision,cou-cou,stewdown and for desert sweet potato pudding...a taste of heaven.(look foward to my hub on recipes for Grenada's local dishes and you'll see what i mean).
they say a picture is worth a thousand words ...so here are some of the most beautiful places you'll ever see.
many breath taking scenaries
