If you are a small business or work in a shared space with other people and need to collaborate on files and workspaces, I have the tool for you. If you have a group of computers, you can use Office Groove to keep synchronized copies of workspaces and files among the computers specified. No longer do you have to search through open file shares with significantly unprotected security permissions. You, or your administrator, can set who has access to what files. Most importantly, the setup is just as simple as setting up the Groove workspaces and connecting each networked computer to the respective location. Even better than that, Groove comes as a feature (usually overlooked) in most versions of Vista and the newly released OS, Windows 7. Be aware that, as expected, the full capabilities are only available in the licensed version. If you want to get some additional details on how it works in Vista and 7:

Right Click on the Desktop -> Groove Folder Synchronization -> Learn More

So all it takes is to setup the synchronization structure and you're set! I will not delve into the depths of what Groove can do for you but provide a simple process to get started.

Here are the basic steps to start synchronizing your files among computers:

1. On the File menu -> Click Use Account on Another Computer -> Save the account file to your desktop.
2. Move the account file to the second computer. Some easy ways to do this may be via e-mail attachment or a removable storage device (ie. USB drive).
3. On the second computer -> Install Groove 2007
4. In the Account Configuration Wizard -> Click Use a Groove Account you have already created -> Select your saved account file.
5. The workspace(s) now display in the Launch bar as Not on this computer -> Double-click each workspace to download it from other computers (depending upon how many you perform steps 2-4).

You should be ready to go after this and you can begin to test out the capabilities of Groove. Enjoy!
