Little Club-DBC Regatta

Conditions were perfect for the Grosse Pointe Club-Detroit Boat Club Regatta June 21, except for the boats that were caught at the end in high winds and a thunderstorm which hit the last classes as they were finishing and some boats on their way home. We made it into our harbor at CSYS and got our sails put away before the squall hit.

The racing was close in our class in the moderate wind and a light chop. Mika stayed in shore of the fleet on the first leg which was a spinnaker reach, built up a big lead by the first mark and was never threatened. The lead changed several times among the rest of the fleet. Mika was followed in second place by Evolution and Das Boot in third. Mika's elapsed time on the 9.3 mile course was third overall, not far behind C&C 35 Contender and J29 Baron, and she corrected out second only to Contender. On the last leg, a beat down the lake, the wind shifted to the right, again favoring the boats that stayed closest to the shore.

Another set of fun photos...what a day! How tall are those masts?!? I love seeing the spinnakers billowing out...one photo of a red hulled boat with white sail and red spinnaker was beautiful! The water looked perfect, which I guess is why spinnakers needed. A great outing it would seem!

It was a beautiful day, marred only by ythe fact that we had to motor out to the start...but we did beat the storm on our sail back home!
