Ground Zero time stood still
63Power has descended by thy hand
The world stood still - in a deathly chill
A burning damning flaming spear
pearcing Humanities Soul
we are left with a gaping hole.
Surreal events of no time & space
where have we gone, with this our human race.
No place to run, no place to hide,
a cosmic journey for the dark soul to ride...
A deathly smell - a chaotic swell
of a world turned upside down,
in an instant of a sound - Terror of no bounds!
Chilling screams ending thousands of childhood dreams
chaos, fear, despair - souls are doomed, a burning abyss
of a deathly Hell - where or where does humanity dwell?
Ground Zero - The dark messenger has called
He of no face...... a ghostly vision of hateful disgrace!
Murder, death, kill - guided by the hand of Satanic Will...
Who, why and how to this?
An ending of humanities soul
things shall never be the same
the Beast has come to lay his claim.
Sacrifice

Thanks, yes you are so right, major events tend to embed themselves in our memories. I wrote this as I was viewing the horrific images back when it happened in 2001. Feeling the loss compelled me to write.
Beautiful poetry, it captures the feelings many felt at the time. I was living in NY at the time, and remember being in front of the computer, and my sister emailed me saying a plane hit the World Trade Center; we thought it was an accident until the second hit the building. We were unable to watch the news for weeks until a cable TV loaned their station, as television reception went blank as the TV signals for the city was on top of the World Trade Center.
Hello Violet Sun, a pleasure to connect with you. Thank you so much for your comments. I have visited NY and can only imagine the feeling of the city during this time. It must have felt very surreal for you to be there in that moment. I can just imagine how you felt. I think a lot of people thought the images were not real at first. I recall having a very heavy heart at the time.
Wonderful poem, Raging Bull, for a tragic event.
So many questions, so many lives lost..
It was like an arrow through the heart--a complete, and utter shock of "How could this happen?"
And now we've all kinds of policies in place...well, as long as it looks official and useful.
Too bad they don't work.

Thanks for the poetry - I was in Cape Town on a business trip on which my wiffe accompanied me and we were waiting in the Avis office for our hired car and they had the TV on and we watched in total amazement as the two planes went into the WTC. An unforgettable and horrifying sight.
Thanks also for introducing me to the music of Lisa Gerrard which I had not heard before - quite amazing stuff!
Love and peace
Tony

Raging Bull,
Thanks again for your kind words here. =) You've always got my vote of confidence. ;) Keep up the good work, as I know time will not prove me wrong. =)
I got a call at 7:52 in the morning from my mom telling me to turn on the TV. I remember feeling...nothing. there was a great singing silence in me as I watched what happened in New York on that day.
I knew right then that things had changed forever. It's strange to think back to the person I was then, what my hopes, dreams, fears and beliefs were and what they are today. I knew then that war was coming, but had little idea of what the true cost of it would be. Should I still be around, I wonder what the man I'll be in the future will think of the hopes, dreams fears and beliefs I hold today.
Thank you RB, sometimes we need to look back to remember who and what we are, we need to look at the big picture and see the forest for the trees.
You have captured that event very well indeed, shame you ever had to though. Just more senseless loss of life that should never have happened.
Lisa's haunting music - voice - really is. It is a fitting mode for the 9-11 tragedy.
Hope to keep seeing you around...

I'll never forget where I was when I heard the news about Ground Zero. I was a freshman in high school, sitting in Home Ec. People always say you never forget where you are when you live during such a major event in history. Touching piece.
