Painting ceilings can be a bit of a chore and the finished product will not look good if you do not do it properly. There is certain things you should do when painting a ceiling. This hub has some steps for you to follow on how to paint a ceiling.

Preparation

Remove anything from the room that is easy to move out. Cover all other furnishings with dustsheets. Cover the floor with dustsheets also.

Use sugarsoap and was down the ceiling to to remove all dust and debris.

If there is any small cracks in the ceiling then use a suitable fine filler. A stronger filler will be required for larger cracks.

Make sure you leave as smooth a finish as possible when filling cracks.

Cutting In

Take a smaller paint brush and dip it in the paint so that it comes halfway up the bristles of the brush.

Now starting in one corner you want to go around the edge of the ceiling with you paint brush painting where the roller is not going to be able to get to.

You also need to cut in around any light fittings. If possible isolate the electricity at the main fuse box and then remove the light fitting for painting.

Roller

Fill your roller tray to a depth so that the paint doesn't rise above the pile of the roller. This is so that you avoid overloading the roller. Now you need to put the roller in the paint. To get the paint distributed evenly on the roller bring the roller back and forth over the top section of the tray.

Start in one corner of the ceiling and use the roller in smooth parallel actions. I suggest working in 1 metre square sections. This will it will be easier to keep the wet edges fresh.

Before applying a second coat make sure the ceiling is thoroughly dry.
