A Dozen Guidelines for Jobs

Are you looking for a new job but are nervous about the entire start-to-finish process? Well don't fret! In this article you will find great guidelines to help you get a great start in finding jobs in your area that you deserve. What are you waiting for? Read on!

To make the process easier for you, I have broken down the guidelines into four parts: the resume, the cover letter, the interview, and the offer. Each section will have three tips that will help you streamline the job-search process and help you land your dream job. Good Luck!

Resumes

Make Sure It Is Error-Free - First impressions mean everything, so it is very important to take the time and energy to edit your resume so that it is error free. The prospective employer is looking for an employee who can deliver flawless work; how can he trust your accuracy if you have made a mistake before you were even hired?

Don't Make a Laundry List - It can be tempting to jot down your jobs in chronological order with simple daily tasks as descriptions, but prospective employers are more interested in specific highlights like increased sales and clients.

Don't Be Afraid to Ask for Help - When it comes to the state of your career, you often have to put your pride to the side and ask for help from a professional. That being said; don't be afraid to seek help from a resume writer. He or she will have expertise in jargon that will get you the interview.

The Cover Letter

Make it Believable - While you can write a very impressive cover letter that tells your prospective employer about all of your great feats as a missionary, you might want to stick to the reasons you are passionate about making a difference at the company.

Don't Use Templates - There are tons of cover letter templates offered to those seeking jobs. But while they are great for providing a creative push, you need to forgo using them word for word so that your cover letter won't lack your experience, expertise and passion.

Play "Make Believe" - If you are having a difficult time writing a believable cover letter, think about the aspects of the field itself that motivate you then play "make believe" by applying those aspects to the specific job that you are less than enthusiastic about applying for.

The Interview

Wear the Appropriate Attire - I know this seems like an age-old request, but new job seekers get out in the field everyday wearing low-cut tops (women) and khakis (men). So be sure to wear business attire to your job interviews. It makes a great impression on the prospective employer.

Know the Company - It is important that you do research on the company you are interviewing with before you get there. That way, you can impress the interviewer with the ways you intend to make a difference in their business.

Don't Disrespect Your Previous Employer - While you may still be bitter about your previous boss belittling you at the company formal, it is important not to bring that up at an interview. You have to remember that the interviewer is a manager and will be particularly sensitive to bitter employees.

The Offer

Money Talks - While you don't want to place all of your focus on the money, you do need to make sure that the monetary offer matches your living expenses. Never accept jobs without knowing how much you will be paid, and don't be afraid to negotiate the offer if it is lower than you think you deserve.

Don't Relocate If You Don't Like the City - Sometimes it is tempting to apply for jobs new cities if you need a major change and the money sounds great. However, if you are unfamiliar with the city, you need to make sure you do research before relocating your family (at the company's expense) only to discover you hate everything but the job.

Reassure Them of Your Expertise - Many times employers are still concerned about their choice once they've hired you, so it doesn't hurt to reassure them during the handshake that you are exactly what they're looking for.

Once you've taken heed to these tips for applying for jobs, you will be on your way to finding exactly what you're looking for. So what are you waiting for? Get your resume together, type up your cover letter, practice for the interview, and prepare for offers from the best jobs in the field.
