Guitar Lessons – Advantages of Learning Acoustic Guitar First
61When you are choosing your guitar lesson, you may find it is not easy to decide whether to learn Acoustic or Electric guitar first. I encourage most of the guitar beginners to start with an acoustic unless you are really enthusiastic about heavy metal, rock or blues music.
Learning acoustic guitar at the beginning helps you develop the groundwork. The strings gauge of the acoustic and electric is different. Acoustic guitars have thicker strings and the frets are close to the strings. You need to play a clean chord with more finger strength.
This is a good practice. Finger strength is very important to a great guitarist. You may acquire excellent finger skills through playing an acoustic. Once you have the skills, playing an electric is not a problem to you. Due to the thinner strings and closer frets space, you will feel more comfortable to play songs with your electric guitar.
You can gain more experience by learning acoustic guitars as they are suitable for most of the guitar music styles, such as country, classical, jazz and pop rock. Lots of guitar learners do not know which kind of style is their favorite. You are not likely to play classical music with your electric guitar. So if you begin with an electric, you are limited to a narrow range. You will never find that classical music is the best to you.
Learning acoustic guitars is cheaper than learning the electric. All you need are just your acoustic guitar and a few picks. Amplifiers, cords, cables, effect pedal, which are all necessities for electric guitars, are not required. It can save you money and space. Even though you do not want to learn guitar after a month, you will not be too upset about dumping all of the accessories or sending them to your neighbor.
By starting with an acoustic guitar, you need not worry how much space you should have to place the accessories. If you want to practice outside your home, you can just bring your acoustic to wherever you want. The portability of acoustic guitars allows you to play songs in church, park or school conveniently.
Acoustic guitars also provide flexibility for you to choose when to practice your skills. You may play it all-day. You can control the volume with your hands easily. But for electric guitars, as you always need to play them with an amp turned on, it may be too annoying to your neighbors. The loud sound of electric guitars restricts you to learn guitar in daytime only.
Learning acoustic guitar first has many advantages. You need not invest a large amount of money. You can train your finger strength. You can play it anywhere and anytime.
