Learning guitar is easy. No matter you are a dummy, a child, an adult or an elderly, you can play great guitar music. In this first guitar lesson, you will get some basic knowledge in guitar, such as types of guitar, guitar accessories, and, the most important thing, how to learn guitar.
There are commonly four types of guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar and Lefty Guitar. I will introduce them one by one.
If you like country or classical music, you must learn acoustic guitar. The bright and loud sound produced by an acoustic is a perfect match with those music styles. Also acoustic guitar is portable. You need not play with an amplifier (amp) and other accessories. Just your finger or your pick is enough. You can bring it to anywhere to spread your guitar music. Acoustic guitar is an ideal guitar to play in front of a small group of people.
Another type of guitar is electric guitar which is quite expensive to learn. You need many things like an amp, cables, effect pedal and cords. I will never recommend a guitar beginner to learn an electric first because of that. But electric guitar is easier to play, thanks to the thinner strings and closer distance among the frets. You can play many songs in jazz, rock, or blues style with your electric.
Unlike acoustic guitar and electric guitar which have six strings, you may always see guitars with only four strings. They are bass guitar. The strings are just the first four strings of a six-string guitar, starting from the thickest one. Bass guitar is the most suitable type for playing heavy metal and rock music.
Imagine a guitarist playing guitar at a live concert. Which hand does he form the chord? Which hand does he strum the strings? Normally he places his left hand on the fret board and uses his right hand to pluck the strings. So how about left-handed people? Lefty guitar is particularly invented for them. This kind of guitar allows them to play guitar in a more comfortable way. They can use left hand to play the strings and right hand for fingering.
I have already mentioned a little bit about guitar accessories. Let's discuss in detail. When you are learning guitar, you may need to buy some picks and strings. They can be regarded as necessities. An amp can help increase the volume of a guitar. There may be some pick-ups for you to make special effect when playing guitar.
Extra accessories include guitar capo which helps you play barre chords easier, guitar tuner which save your time to tune a guitar and guitar case which protects your guitar when you are not playing it.
One of the reasons making guitar learning as a simple task is that guitarists tend to use tabs to play and write music. Tabs contain six lines representing the six strings on the guitar, numbers telling you which frets you have to press and symbols indicating the guitar technique you need to apply. They are easy to read. Even a guitar novice (or dummy) can practice his favorite song as long as he has the tab.
Here comes to the most important part. How to learn it? I would say you should learn to play guitar wherever and whenever you want. There are many online guitar learning products available nowadays. Choose one to start with. Most of them provide video lessons, ebooks, jam tracks, discussion forum and lots of guitar software for you. There is no limitation of location and time. You can control the learning progress by yourself.
And the main reason I love learning guitar online is the products are extremely cheap. They only cost you US$30 to US$50, which is cheaper than going to traditional guitar lessons for a month.
Believe me. You can also become a great guitarist. It is really simple.
