Unfortunately, most guitarists that are learning to play guitar with online guitar lessons, often get a little ahead of themselves and fail to learn the basics. It is important to learn guitar playing techniques and warm up exercises in order to build a foundation to advance your playing and start developing your own guitar techniques.

The following tutorial will give you a few great suggestions on exactly where to start.

Warm Up and Practice Exercises

Perhaps one of the most common exercises for warming up and building technique are scales. A lot of guitarists will play scales everyday as part of a routine in attempt to try and "tighten" up their style.

What we mean by tightening up your style is, practicing certain techniques to the point that they become second nature and can be adapted into your playing style. In order to be a versatile guitarist, you need to be able to use many different techniques flawlessly while playing.

The only way that you are going to be able to do this is by practicing all of those style techniques. Scales are the most common warm up exercise due to the fact that they encompass all of the techniques that one would want to practice. This is why scales are an excellent way of warming up.

Tips for Creating the Perfect Warm Up

There are not a lot of online guitar lessons that teach warm up routines. The best thing to do is to create your own warm up. The following tips will give you all the tools you need to build a perfect practice routine to build your guitar techniques. This is the best way to do this because you will be able to first create a one of a kind warm up that's right for you and at the same time you will be able to change it as you progress and advance your style.

Tip # 1:

The first thing you should do is pick the guitar playing techniques that you want to improve on. The best thing to do is to pick between two to five scales or blues riffs.

Some of the most common scales for people learning how to play electric guitar include the pentatonic scale, and the major and minor scales. One of the most common things that traditional teachers will make their students incorporate into their practice routine is memorizing these scales.

Tip # 2:

Once you have selected and memorized the scales that you want to use, you can start your practice by playing these scales for around twenty minutes.

You should play one scale after the other and repeat, the goal is to be able to play them as flawlessly as possible. As you start to learn new riffs and techniques you can slowly start adding them to your routine.

Tip # 3:

You will find that in time you will out grow your warm up routine. The good thing is that with there being so many different scales and riffs to memorize, your warm technique will constantly be one step ahead of you.

This is by far the fastest way to advance your playing. If you follow these online guitar lessons and instructions for building guitar techniques you will soon be playing like the pros and even creating your own guitar playing techniques.
