"I'm the invisible man, I'm the invisible man,
Incredible how you can see right through me,
I'm the invisible man, I'm the invisible man"
-- Queen

My first piece on a sci-fi writer is already receiving comments. So I thought I would try it again. I am not old enough to have actually met H. G. Wells but I have read and enjoyed some of his books. I have seen the cinematic adaptations of his works.

In fact, somewhere back in PA in my parents mothball-laden attic is a vinyl recording--a record, boys and girls--a "pre-CD" version--of Orson Welles famous radio broadcast of H. G. Wells' "War Of The Worlds". I have even often felt like an "invisible man" in social settings. (Mind you, ladies,  I probably felt like that because I am just such a nice, shy, innocent,.white boy perfect for being alone with. . .but I digress. . .)

Here is my take on another sci-fi website:

http://www.readingscififantasy.com/ is a site that is dedicated to science fiction and fantasy literature. The content varies as to encourage a wider audience of “surfers” to visit. It contains information about novels, series, publishing and specific authors.

The article up for discussion today is a brief biography on H. G. Wells. In three solid paragraphs the author covers Wells life from his birth in 1866 until his death in 1946. Wells, thought by some to be one of the fathers of the genre, was perhaps first inspired by the works of others while healing from a broken leg.

Wells, a former draper apprentice and teacher, is perhaps best known for three novels: "The Time Machine", "The Island Of Dr. Moreau" and "War Of The Worlds" all published in the late 1800s. Even people who do not read science fiction may be familiar with the film adaptations of these books as well as Orson Welles’ radio broadcast of "War of the Worlds" in 1938.

The piece concludes noting that Wells wrote both fiction and non-fiction covering topics such as “the future, politics and technology”. At the time of his death he was still active working on a project that focused on “the dangers of nuclear war”.

Give a look see at http://www.readingscififantasy.com. You might find it is "Wells" worth the time.

(Sorry.)

As always,

My name is Phoenix and. . .that's the bottom line.
