H1N1 Flu
Yes to be politically correct they changed the name from the Swine Flu to H1N1 Flu. But you know the most important question you should be asking yourself about the H1N1 Flu is what do I need to know and do to protect myself from the H1N1 Flu.
2009 H1N1 Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by a new strain of influenza virus. In June 2009 H1N1 was declared a pandemic meaning it is everywhere in the world.
Flu viruses spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing. Sometimes people may catch flu by touching something infected and then by touching their mouth or nose. A vaccine for the H1N1 Flu is expected to be available in late fall 2009.
Who Should Get Priority For The H1N1 Vaccination
1. Pregnant Women.
2. People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months.
3. Health-care and Emergency Medical Services Personal.
4. People between 6 months and 24 years old.
5. Adults age 25 through 64 with chronic disorders or compromised immune systems.
Keep in mind washing your hands is the most important way to prevent the H1N1 Flu.
Seek Emergency Medical Care
1. If you have difficulty breathing or shortness of breath.
2. If you have pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen.
3. If you have sudden dizziness.
4. If you have severe or persistent vomiting.
5. If your flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and a worse cough.
6. In babies , bluish or gray skin color , lack of responsiveness of extreme irritation.
Tips To Prevent The Flu
1. Wash your hands often with soap and water , especially after you cough or sneeze. If you can't wash your hands keep hand sanitizer handy and use it often.
2. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Throw that tissue away after you use it.
3. Avoid touching surfaces , door knobs , or any place that other people touch or possibly sneeze or cough on. Be sure to avoid public telephones. And wash your hands or use hand sanitizer if there is any possibility you touched anything that is contaminated.
4. Avoid touching your eyes , nose or face. Germs spread this way.
5. Try to avoid contact with sick people.
6. Get the seasonal flu vaccine as soon as possible.
7. Get the H1N1 flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available.
I know I keep saying it but wash your hands often. Keep hand sanitizer with you and use it often. If you do this you will reduce your chances of catching the regular flu or H1N1 flu greatly. Keep in mind that you should wash your hands from the tips of your fingers up to your elbows with plenty of soap and water or hand sanitizer.
Your Natural Immunity And How To Boost It
You can boost your natural immunities by eating foods that are rich in Vitamin C. So see Mom was right when she told you to drink your orange juice. If you take Vitamin C tablets you want them with zinc so it will boost absorption.
And believe it or not but Mom was also right about Chicken Soup. Yes chicken soup including chicken noodle soup really is good for you and if you eat it piping hot it can even improve your breathing. Next time you have the flu or a cold give it a try.
