Dr Oz's Family Will Not Get The Swine Flu Vaccine
If you have ever watched the Oprah Winfrey Show you may have seen some spots that feature Dr. Mehmet Oz. He is a talk show host and Vice-Chair and Professor of Surgery at ColumbiaUniversity. He is one of the most popular doctors in the United States. He has been featured on Oprah’s show 55 times over the last 5 seasons. It may shock you that Dr. Oz wife and children will not be getting the H1N1 Swine Flu shot.

Recently he was featured on Fox News in an interview talking about the H1N1 swine flu vaccine and whether it is safe or not. Dr. Oz states that because he is a health care worker he needs to get the shot so that he doesn’t pass the virus on to others. He makes a case to try to convince the public that the swine flu vaccine is safe but openly admits that his wife and 4 children will not be getting the H1N1 swine flu vaccine. Now if Dr. Oz wife and children are not getting this shot I know I’m having even more reservations than I did before.

Now why is the vaccine safe for everyone else but not safe enough for his own family? It seems odd that one of the most well known doctors in the country cannot convince his own wife that it is safe for her and their kids so I am not so inclined to believe his effort to convince the public that it will be 100% safe.

Dr. Oz also states that if you vaccinate 100 million people there are bound to be complications like allergies and neurological problems. The problem is that the companies producing the H1N1 swine flu vaccine all have immunity given to them by the U.S. government and cannot be held liable for any damage that it may cause you. If the vaccine is so safe then why does the government need to give the drug companies immunity and what do you do if you are one of the unlucky people that contracts serious complications or even death from taking the H1N1 swine flu vaccine.
Many Health Care Workers Do Not Want the Vaccine
With all of the additives like squalene and thermerisol many people including thousands of health care workers do not share Dr. Oz’s opinion on its safety and consider the H1N1 swine flu vaccine to be potentially dangerous. The probably reason that Dr. Oz wife and children will not be getting the swine flu vaccine is because of these potentially dangerous additives. The risk of adding these to your body may be a greater risk than contracting the swine flu this season.

Thanks for your comment Apachi46. I agree that we should be praying to God and I believe Jesus Christ is watching over my family so we are going to leave it in His hands and are praying everyday. I don't like the fact that the government gave the drug companies immunity. They are going to make billions of dollars off of this vaccine so if some poor person or child gets hurt from it they will have plenty of money to compensate people so letting the drug companies off the hook is inexcusable because they are pushing this on people whether they want it or not. Fear sells vaccines and that's about all I see in the mainstream media.

I think that H1N1 is getting too much press. We get important information in sound bites and often by persons such as Dr. Oz (I have the utmost regard for him) that I can't be certain that a decision to get a shot is based on a real need or a reaction to popular media dishing and borderline hysteria. If this is in fact a pandemic, persons who are vulnerable may contract H1N1 and may or may not be able to fight it. I agree with W2 who advocates a healthy immune system--best place to start.

The REAL question we should ALL be asking ourselves is, "Why is the Government and the Drug Companies trying to push this shot onto us?" Money? Or, is there something else going on that none of us know? I for one do not trust our Government nor do I trust Drug Companies. I think we need to all be looking for alternative ways to help ourselves and our families and those around us. There are some scary things going on right now in our Country and around the World. You are all right in trusting our Lord, our Savior in finding the answers. However, I believe the answers are before us. How ever hard those answers may seem. It seems to me that this vaccine is scarier then the flu it supposed to protect against! I have heard report after report saying that most people who get the swine flu recover in a week or 2, that its when they have an underlying condition that it can get bad, as I have no underlying conditions I think I would rather get the flu then the vaccine.
As you indicated the additives are an issue- with all vaccines. Since I am no longer active duty military working in a large medical center, they can't make me get the shot and I don't intend to get either flu shot. I have been taking a homeopathic for 3 months. BTW, another immune booster is thymus support, preferably animal glandular (descicated).
Hi rmcrayne - thanks for stopping in. Yes I'm not a fan of the additives. When I was in the USMC stationed in Hawaii back in 1994 I had to sign a waiver for a vaccine I received. None of us wanted to take it because we thought it was odd that we had to sign a piece of paper basically waiving any rights we had and giving them permission to give it to us. When looking back at my medical records it looks like it was some kind of experimental plague vaccine. Many of my friends in my platoon had returned from the Gulf War and were suffering from Gulf War Syndrome experiencing fatigue and hair loss. The government will deny forever that the vaccines had anything to do with it but people are smarter and more informed now with the internet. I think it is important that we spread the news so others know what their options are. And thank you for your military service!
Great hub. I am not taking anything that a major company will not stand behind. It is amazing to me that these corporations dish this stuff out, but don't want to take responsibility. These Pharmaceutical companies are monsters. They are out to make money and this is the bottom line.
Interesting article, you have obviously put some thought, and research behind your conclusions about the new H1N1 vaccination. As a side note, I’m allergic to thermerisol, one of the preservatives in the new H1N1 vaccination. I discovered this dreadful allergy, nearly 30 years ago, after I began wearing soft contact lenses. At that time, most eye care solutions contained the preservative, thermosol. My eyes nearly swelled shut, before I realized my allergic reaction to the solution. My optometrist felt certain it was the preservative. For this reason alone, the H1N1 vaccination could be harmful to be taken for flu prevention, since I’m sure there are others who share my allergy to thermosol. In fact, saline solution manufacturers DO NOT use thermosol any longer in the eye care products. What does that say about the potential allergic reactions out there?
Thanks for your service as well! I remember some news stories shortly after Desert Storm about severe and rare birth defects in vets' newborns. I treated a vet a few years back that started experiencing a cascade of auto-immune kinds of aliments after anthrax injection #4. Of course the medical community didn't want to recognize the obvious. Also treated someone with cancer of cells/location whose embryological cell differentiation was known to be linked with agent orange and other chemicals, NOT smoking or tobacco, of which the patient had never partaken. "The System" just makes my head want to spin.
Hi Mary - my mother also found out she was allergic to thermerisol through contact lens solution. She actually told me the story a couple days ago so I know exactly what you are talking about. And yes, that's a great point that saline solution manufacturers don't use thermerisol anymore because of the terrible reactions. Is this something that we really want injected into our bodies. This age of vaccinations has also brought a huge increase of children with autism spectrum disorders. I don't like it.

I've been kind of leaning toward the build-up-the-immune-system approach, although I am concerned about getting the virus and then passing it on to someone for whom the consequences are serious.
The government officials promoting the vaccine, can take it and rub it on their chests! Meh!!!
J - if your post wasn't condescending to everyone else that posted here and actually held up with some research I would have kept it. and an FYI - just because vaccines have "been around for a long time" doesn't mean we should be lining up like little sheep to accept everything the government tries to scare us with. Every year thousands of people die from regular seasonal flu and the death rate of this flu has not been found to be greater than regular seasonal flu. We should always learn from our history. The 1976 Swine Flu debacle had more people die from the vaccine than actually died from the swine flu itself. Do you know what Guilliam Bare Syndrome is and how it effected people in 1976? We all can do our own research and choose what we want to do. It's a personal choice. If you want to line up for your shot go ahead. They need someone to help them get rid of all the vaccine that the other half of the population has decided not to get.

Honestly i believe this is just media hype, i am pretty positive that other vaccines also cause some of these side effect, this is one has just a lot more media coverage and the topic is burning hot (and will get hotter for sure).
It's that immunity given by government that puzzles me, does this happen to all vaccines or just this one ? That is the question to ask to see the whole picture.
Just another tought here, there are lots of treatments and procedures and even drugs that you can only take if you sign a consent that if something goes bad, the hospital or institution cannot be blamed ... it's the same here really, except that the paper was signed by the government.
Hi Pisco - thanks for stopping by! This seems to be the only vaccine that has ever got immunity from the government. The problem is that it gave them incentive to rush it through quality control and testing. Plus ingredients for this are being shipped from China to add to the vaccine. We have had many problems with quality issues from China. So there are a lot of hands in this vaccine that could create a problem. Even Dr. Oz stated - give this to enough people and there are bound to be problems. So why give the drug companies immunity and zero liability for their product? The drug companies still get to pass Go and collect billions of dollars without compensating a single dollar to anyone that does get the bad effects.
You are right though - should we be asking is this vaccine safe? Or should we be asking why are the drug companies getting immunity for a vaccine that is so safe?

Do not get the shot...it's a trick, there is no flu epidemic...the only people who have it are people you don't know, and the only people who get it are people it was given to. Don't trust them!
As a licensed mental health professional, I have witnessed the abuse of psychotropic medications on the mentally ill. It is too easy to be cynical and paranoid because as someone once said--'there is just enough evidence in reality to support your fears'. I think that if we each make educated choices for ourselves and loved ones then perhaps that is the best we can do in the moment. I have seen many people misdiagnosed with conditions that they did not ultimately have including my late husband and this is dreadful. Still, one can be proactive without completely rejecting a possible alternative to a serious universal bout with swine flu and the loss of lives we may regret.
Everyone needs to start being more conscientious about washing their hands. And, using paper towels to exit the restroom. Along with building their immune system.

There is an entire sect of anti-vaccination supporters, many of which are regulars on the Oprah Winfrey show. In fact, Oprah provides a platform for some of the biggest purveyors of pseudo science found on the airwaves.
Much as Liz B alluded to, people who choose not to get vaccinated are playing with fire. You are making decisions based on little facts, while over the course of the past 100 or so years, vaccinations, for the most part, have done nothing but increase the quality of life for human beings. We have seen the eradication of some pretty nasty ailments thanks to these shots.
The article is on the H1N1 vaccine - not vaccines in general. My brother in law and son had the vaccine 2 weeks ago and now they both have H1N1 swine flu. Wow, it really must be working great! The issue isn't vaccines - it's squalene and thermerisol and the government giving immunity to drug companies. You can sidestep these issues and make generalizations but not getting vaccinated is far from "playing with fire" as you mentioned. You have obviously bought into media hype yourself. Dozens of people in my town have already had H1N1 Swine flu over the last few weeks and they have recovered fine. Some actual had the vaccine and still got it. There is no proof that this new vaccine will even keep you from getting the H1N1 virus. You are also ignoring facts - in 1976 more people died from the swine flu vaccine than the virus itself. that isn't media hype, that is fact! So answer this question - why did the government give immunity to drug companies if THIS VACCINE is so safe? I'm not talking about vaccines from the "past hundred years". You are creating a straw mans argument and not actually addressing the argument at hand. That's the same slight of hand the media uses. Nice try.
Doctor Mercola is one of the top most well known researchers in the topic of vaccines so anyone that wants to do some research into real facts and numbers rather than conjecture and blanket statements check him out. Like I said - do your own research to make your own decisions.

My gripe with the vaccination wasn't really the shot itself but the fact that I had H1N1 the week prior. But, because I wasn't tested (per my employers recommendation) I didn't have 'proof'.
The best defense against ANY sort of flu is a strong immune system.
I basically work in a big petri dish. I haven't been sick for years. I did get H1N1. Had a fever for about 1.5 days and was probably OK to work by the end of the second day.
My biggest gripe about this whole situation is the media is thriving upon the doom and gloom news that H1N1 is bringing. It's scaring the crap out of parents and others.
Load up on antioxidants - particularly vitamin C and vitamin D. Get plenty of rest. Wash your hands. Keep your hands out of your face (ears, eyes, mouth, etc.).
Curtis - thank you for your feedback. I agree with the media hype and don't like the untested part of this vaccine. Bulk ingredients mixed in from China at hasty speeds with low quality control is also a recipe for contamination. There will be some contaminated batches and the people that receive these shots will have no recourse because of the immunity offered by the government. My family takes lots of antioxidants, Vitamin D, and Vitamin C each day. We have been exposed to several people with H1N1 and none of us have got sick. And lots of hand washing - clean and healthy living with proper nutrition is how God intended us to stay healthy.
Hockey - I want you to know that I do respect your own personal choice. I would not tell anyone to not get the vaccine because it is a personal choice. And likewise I am not going to run around and tell people that if they don't get it they are stupid. I believe in both sides of an argument being presented and allowing thinking people to make their own decisions from there.

God is not in the supplement business but his original creation with the foods and plants held much more of a nutritional value than they do today. Through pesticides, hormones, and pollution man has taken God's creation and made it less effective for meeting our own needs. Did you know that an orange from just 50 years ago held a ton more Vitamin C than it does today? That's why I beef my immune system up with supplements because we have ruined our own food supply which has also led to lower immune systems and increased sickness and disease. Foods are loaded with preservatives and are highly processed depleting their nutritional value and making them cheaper to mass produce for greater profits. God had it right the first time. We can't improve on His creation.
With all due respect to individual opinion, the flu and swine flu are different and most of the H1N1 cases are in the hospitals and gravely ill. Here is where we need more than just soundbites--numbers are helpful as is factual info rather than administration apologies for not having the vaccine more widely available. Perhaps there is room for gratitude here. I really do not see the difference between the flu and H1N1 accept that the latter is deadlier. I have not studied the differences and I do think there are far more dangerous viruses out there which we do not hear about unless we are infected by a loved one and left in the dark by 'loved one's'' doctors.
Liz B the H1N1 is not far deadlier and most cases are not the hospital. I have several friends and family members diagnosed with H1N1 right now and not a single person is in the hospital. "Most cases are in the hospital" is a huge exaggeration. Tens of thousands of people die every year of regular seasonal flu. Do you remember reading about or seeing any news about those deaths every single day last year?
Prevention still works. Do everything you can to avoid exposure. People are very careless in their every day lives in terms of prevention. How many thousands of people grab the door handle at the local super market, the gas station pump, the school doors? Then they touch their nose, their eyes, their mouth.
Washing your hands and avoiding contact with contaminated surfaces is extremely important in preventing the transmission of the flu virus. It's also extremely important to take care of yourself, eat right, get rest and sleep.
If you avoid the flu you can not spread the flu.

Great job! There are a myriad of issues amoung our old and young due to overvaccination or immunizing with vaccines that are not tested "over time". I actually studied this for several years and am mortified that "we" are being "convinced" that it is OK! Pregnant woman are adviced to not dye their hai, take anything yet it is ok to have the flu shot. They are making us believe that the Swine flu is like Polio. Genius in marketing!
Yep - it's the disinformation that is scary! Also, the fact that the drug was rushed out is not good - what most people don't realize is that if you are healthy then even if you do get the Swine Flu you are more than likely to survive - the odds of a healthy person dying of Swine Flu is negligible!

This was a great hub! I was not aware that Dr Oz had given this interview. It really makes me reconsider this. I was sick for almost 2 weeks with a horrible flu. My kids and even my Mom (who babysits for me) got the flu too. Her Dr was positive she had Swine Flu but my Doctors (KAISER) would not test. So I was kinda left hanging, wondering whether or not it was the seasonal flu or swine flu...I am thinking it was H1N1 but even if it was the case the Doctors keep pressuring me to get my kids vaccinated...I am on the fence with that. As far as the flu, I just recovered from it and I even got a secondary infection (sinusitis and bronchitis) where I ended up on antibiotics for almost 12 days. My friends husband got sick and ended up with a lung infection and sadly died from it just a week ago....It really makes you think. Thanks for posting this.

I believe they are fishing without enough testing to prove what they have is going to actually save your life. Then the government is giving immunity to the drug companies just incase something should happen to you. I think we should be praying to whatever deity you believe in, I believe in God that he shows us the right way to go, instead of leaving it upto us alone.
