Indian festival Holi

 

Background:-

Amongst the innumerable festival Holi ranks as the most colourful. It celebrates the arrived of spring and death of demoness holika, a celebration of joy and hope.

Holi provides a refreshing respite from the mundane mournsas people from all walks of life enjoy themselves. In a tight knit community, it also provided a good excuse for letting off some steam and settling old scores, without causing physical injury.

Dhuleti, day after holi, is the actual Festival of colour when everything in sight in covered in a riot of colours.

DID YOU KNOW:-

lathmaar holi is celebrated in barsana where women have the the freedom to use lathe sticks hit their men lathe.

Tradition has it that Krishna from nandgaon use to come to barsana to play holi with radha along with his gopi friends. The gopis after merriment chased away the gopas of nandgoan by beating them with lathis 2 falen, a village 15 kms from kasi celebrates holi in a special way.

Apanda (holy man) walks bare feet over holy pyers without getting symbolizing prahlads emergence from the burning pyre unharmed.
