So the House has passed a health care reform bill with the public option. This is excellent news...considering that our current health care system is broken and in urgent need of repair and reform in order to insure many more people (too many people are being left out with the current system that's now in place).

The title of a recently released Yahoo! article about this monumental event/occurrence is "Majority leader: House will pass health bill", which is kind of a bland and very unemotional headline for such a monumental event/critical issue.

Now, again, we have to analyze what people are saying (i.e. are they happy about this or is this grudging acceptance?) House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer started off: "I wouldn't refer to it as a squeaker, BUT IT'S GOING TO BE CLOSE...THIS IS A HUGE UNDERTAKING". So the House Majority Leader seems to be CAUTIOUSLY optimistic that everything will work out, which is the right attitude, for now."We certainly have more than 218 people (i.e. an ABSOLUTE majority) who say they want to vote for the bill". "want to?" WHAT'S STOPPING THEM?

"The trick is MAKING SURE THEY HAVE A COMFORT LEVEL WITH THE PROVISIONS THEY ARE PARTICULARLY FOCUSED ON TO ALLOW THEM TO DO SO (i.e. vote for this bill). So I THINK that's what we're in the final stages of TRYING to get to". "I think" and "trying" reinforce the fact that there is at least still SOME uncertainty.

According to AARP senior policy adviser John Rother, "THE BILL DOES IMPROVE QUALITY AND IT IMPROVES ACCESS (to good healthcare). When people hear this message from us, IT WILL HAVE AN IMPACT". This is very positive. So the AARP is endorsing this overhaul.

The final comment is from Indiana Democratic Rep. Brad Ellsworth, who is pro-choice: "I know what's in my heart. I know what's in my head. AND I THINK THE BIG GUY UPSTAIRS KNOWS". This is certainly not a statement of support, but it's not exactly a statement of opposition either.

The National Right to Life immediately responded with a statement denouncing Ellsworth's proposal as "a political fig leaf made out of cellophane", i.e. VERY WEAK.

The final significant analytical statement/sentence from Yahoo! is: "With NO GOP BACKING, Democrats will need OVERWHELMING SUPPORT from within their own caucus", both in the House (the votes seem to be there) and the Senate (this is certainly no guarantee with skeptics such as Joe Lieberman, Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu and Ben Nelson ready to create trouble at the first opportunity). They are ready to pounce.

To conclude, there was a notice on Facebook allegedly posted by Republican Rep. Bachman asking people to storm Capitol Hill to prevent the House from passing this very important health reform bill. THANKFULLY, that gimmick either didn't happen or wasn't effective. Now, the Senate needs to pass its version and get it reconciled with the House version so that President Obama can sign this reform package as soon as possible.
