1 - First things First

- Sign up for a local boxing club

Become a member of a local boxing club, you can check local newspapers or online for any boxing places around you locally.

When you sign-up, you'll learn the basic fundamentals like combos, defense, offense and rules. You'll often be paired to fight someone of a similar physical frame as yourself. This is called sparring and is not a real match, but more to hone your skills.

3 - Boxing Wear

- Just Do it

A boxer basic set of tools are the following:

a set of jump ropes

a couple handwraps

a couple good fitting mouth pieces

groin protector for men

chest protector for women

a pair of boxing shoe to only be worn in boxing matches.

5 - Putting On Boxing Gloves

- If it doesn't fit. You must acquit

First you must wrap a "hand wrap" around the base of your thumb and palm and then extend it out and wrap it around your wrist about three times. Open your hand extended your finger and then wrap it around your knuckles three times. Extended your thumb and wrap around the base of the thumb twice and then across the whole hand twice diagonally.

Fasten it or if not included on the hand wrap, tie the end where your wrist is. Now you can place your hands inside the gloves and fasten or lace the straps.

7 - Footwork

- What size shoe sir?

Always keep your weight balanced no matter where you step. Make a habit of reversing your body stance very quickly. Move front to back, side to side and diagonally. Never get your legs crossed in front of each other. Always move in the direction away from your opponents dominate fighting hand so they will have to reach in farther to hit you thus making them more vulnerable form a counter attack by you.

9 - Throwing a Hook

- Without a fishing rod

Point your feet in the direction of your opponent. Using the side opposite of your writing hand, swing. Bury your chin into this sides shoulder. On the moment of impact your palm should face the ground

11- Throwing an uppercut

- without scissors

Get into your fighting stance. Use your front leg to move forward with the punch. Swing upward with the punch very close to your body. Your palm should face your face as you punch.

13 - Performing a Combination

- No, not on a pizza

Make an invisible mark in the center of your opponent. You'll want to attack with every short punch directed in that mark. Your forearms should immediately guard your face if your opponent comes in to attack.

15 - Sparring an Opponent

- Practice makes Perfect

Sparring is the act of mock fighting a real fight. In a sparring session you don't hit your hardest. You want your hits to be loose and light, but faster than a real fight. You only work on becoming a better fighter with footwork, dodge work, jabs, hooks, uppercut, blocking, combinations, your fighting stance and everything else.

17 - Buying a Punching Bag

- Not including your wife

First get yourself lightweight gloves for sparring, no need for a set of real boxing gloves to use. A large punching bag will be over 6 feet usually so you must have a lot of head space. Set the punching bag in a larger room because you'll want to maneuver around it as you punch it.
