• First thing that could be done is to rub two pearls against each other,the imitation pearl feels slippery,whereas the real pearl feels rough and the layers of nacre will leave a powdery residue.
• Secondly when imitation pearl is rub against the glass , the imitation pearl leaves no scratches whereas the real pearl leaves scratches of pearl powder.Even after the powder is wiped off one can feel that the real pearl is not damaged at all.

• Thirdly,if you move a pearl over the edge of your teeth. A real pearl will feel sandy and gritty, while a fake pearl will have a very smooth texture.
• Fourthly, if we look at the pearls carefully, under the sunlight we see that fake pearls appear perfect without any flaws whereas real pearls usually have flaws and are imperfect .
• Fifthly, if we see pearls under a magnifying glass, the real pearls look rough, while the fake pearls appear smooth.Real pearls have fingerprint-like surface ridges when viewed under magnifying glass. Fake pearls have bubbles or matte patterns on the surface when magnified under the magnifying glass.
• Sixthly, we can find the difference when we weigh the pearls in our hand. If it feels light, it is probably an imitation. Real pearls have a higher density and therefore they are a bit heavier.
• Seventhly, if we really can`t make out if a pearl is real or not, and do not mind wasting a pearl,we can cut it in two halves, smash it open with a hammer. The inside of real pearls have thin layers of nacre that looks like the layers of an onion a kind of sediment layers.
• Eighthly,Real pearls show smoothness around drilled holes. Fake pearls show roughness or bump around drilled holes, as if the pearls have been melted during drilling.
• Ninthly,Real pearls are cold to touch whereas we don't feel the coolness when touching fake pearls. They always have the same temperature as the room air.
• Tenthly,Real pearls reflect light beautifully and their luster looks natural. The luster of fake pearls doesn't look natural. They look like glass
