HTC Touch 3G Review
78
With a whole range of top-end HTC devices storming the market,
including the Pro2 Touch and Touch Diamond2, there is not much space on
the shelves, the lower end of business devices. Enter the HTC Touch 3G,
a full business unit that, with enough business knowledge CRED to slot
between the flagship models.
The HTC Touch 3G is an entirely different device, the Touch Pro2
and Diamond2. The hardware and software design returns to the original
HTC Touch, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
The home screen includes a sidebar for navigation with widgets you
can also use up and down strokes on the screen. Choose one of the
following, and you have a sub-folder. Gesture, horizontal, and you can
through the various menus, with each "widget".
It's easy to order the HTC Touch 3G from normal (telephone)-mode
to flight mode when you have a frequent flyer - simply tap the
displayed operators. From this "communication" you can also check the
status of Bluetooth, push e-mail and then the data connection on and
off.
When writing e-mails, documents or text messages, you can use a
number of other text to be entered. These include the transcription
tool that is most difficult to use unless you have super-clean
handwriting, QWERTY, the fiddly because the buttons are too small or
compact QWERTY, which takes time to get used to. There is also the more
traditional keyboard, which we think is the easiest to use.
Windows is not very well hidden under the HTC TouchFLO interface
as compared to newer TouchFLO 3D-based products. You still need to use
the Windows Start menu to access the main menu, the list of
applications and most applications that are not covered by the HTC
wall.
The HTC Touch 3G offers the same Opera browser like the latest HTC
touch screen phones, with an expansion of the possibility of entering
the URL. From the home screen, you can create a search widget on the
Orange branded version, which we have received, you can search for a
concept as it is on Google and Yahoo search engine with Orange. From
the search results you can use the screen again to the full Opera
browser.
A horizontal scroll bar on the screen, so you can zoom in and out
by swiping left on the screen. It is not as intuitive as the iPhone's
Safari browser, but it is still satisfactory to use.
The hardware is very basic compared to other HTC devices, but the
HTC Touch 3G is a low-budget device. The screen is pretty small at
2.8-inches, and if the resolution is a standard 320 x 240, which makes
it is a little difficult to simple tasks such as writing a long e-mails
or the display of a complete web page easily. It also means that the
stylus is a necessity and not as an optional accessory.
There are only three hardware keys on the device, a left soft key,
right soft key and central button double as a four-way navigation
button, if you are not satisfied with the navigation touch screen and
stylus combination.
The HTC Touch 3G has a practical function copying and pasting, you
can use to part of a document into a new file, or in the search box in
the browser.
The usual Windows Mobile suite of applications are preinstalled on
the device, allowing you to open and edit Word and Excel files and
PowerPoint presentations.
Excel Mobile is not an intuitive application for creating tables,
especially because the cells are too small to in text, even if they are
optimized for mobile and PowerPoint only you have the opportunity,
presentations, instead of them.
With Word Mobile is simple enough, with the option to create or
read documents. Every document, except in the docx format, then you may
need to upgrade to the latest version of Word on your PC, or a
Microsoft docx plugin, if you hope that the documents on your computer.
RSS hub allows you to RSS feeds for your favorite websites, so you
do not have to go online whenever you want to view the headlines. To
these, you can use either the address manually or search for a site.
The application will then find the RSS URL for each site. Every visit
to the RSS Hub, the recent headlines are automatically downloaded to
the device.
The HTC Touch 3G is an upgrade to the decent original HTC Touch
with HSDPA support (up to 7.2Mbps) and a faster processor, is certainly
a welcome improvement.
The camera also has a grant of up to 3.2-megapixels, but it is not
in the same league as other smartphones without autofocus and flash.
Although the HTC Touch 3G does not have the same bells and
whistles as the flagship of HTC devices like the Touch Touch Diamond2
and Pro2, it is a decent effort by the Taiwanese manufacturer for top
business functions on a budget phone.
