Haiku Blues
65Yes I know, what am I doing mixing haiku and blues! Is it irresponsible, absurd, maybe even disrespectful? Well……. my daughter forwarded me a quote a few days ago that got me thinking…….
If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary. Jim Rohn
And here are a few more that influenced me:
Love, and do what you like. St Augustine
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it. Robin Williams
Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible. Frank Zappa
So here are a few new haiku and even a few of my old ones on the same theme. And by the way, any blues fans who have not heard Robben Ford's version of 'I Ain't Got Nothing But The Blues' (see below), do yourself a favour and watch the video now!
what are you doing
take your tongue out of my mouth
this kiss is good-bye
i’m playing the blues
touching deep that special place
the depths of my soul
alone in my bed
I’m feeling low down and blue
where the hell are you
you were on my mind
when i woke up this morning
it tore me apart
Ain't got the change of a nickel
Ain't got no bounce in my shoes
Ain't go no fancy to tickle
I ain't got nothing but the blues
Ain't got no coffee that's perking
Ain't got no winnings to lose
Ain't got a dream that is working
I ain't got nothing but the blues
When trumpets flare up
I keep my hair up
I just can't make it come down
Believe me peppie
I can't get happy
Since my ever loving baby left town
Ain't got no rest in my slumbers
Ain't got no feelings to bruise
Ain't got no telephone numbers
I ain't got nothing but the blues
Ain't got the change of a nickel
Ain't got no bounce in my shoes
Ain't go no fancy to tickle
I ain't got nothing but the blues
Ain't got no coffee that's perking
Ain't got no winnings to lose
Ain't got a dream that is working
I ain't got nothing but the blues
I ain't got nothing but the blues
When trumpets flare up
I keep my hair up
I just can't make it come down
Believe me peppie
I can't get happy
Since my ever loving baby left town
Ain't got no rest in my slumbers
Ain't got no feelings to bruise
Ain't got no telephone numbers
I ain't got nothing, nothing, nothing but the blues
Ain't got no east, no west, no good, no best
Ain't got no man to choose
I ain't got nothing
Ain't got nothing but the blues
been inside myself
can’t get you out of my mind
i wish i could cry
sleeping without you
not as much fun as with you
come back to my bed
what was i thinking
took a chance on happiness
you took it away
rushing up the neck
playing some ass-kicking blues
pentatonic scale
on hearing your voice
i know it was right so why
do i feel so low
As I stand by your flame
I get burned once again
Feeling low down and blue
As I sit by the fire
Of your warm desire
Ive got the blues for you
Every night you've been away
Ive sat down and I have prayed
That you're safe in the arms of a guy
Who will bring you alive
Wont drag you down with abuse
In the silk sheet of time
I will find peace of mind
Love is a bed full of blues
And I've got the blues for you
And I've got the blues for you
And I've bust my brains out for you
And I'll tear my hair out
I'm gonna tear my hair out just for you
If you dont believe what Im saying
At three o'clock in the morning, babe, well
I'm singing my song for you
i insulted you
that wasn’t my intention
love’s slight hurts at times
feeling so alone
i’m not out looking for you
why don’t you answer
i’m breaking my heart
is it the right thing to do
do it for me please
churning guts and heart
and i the one who said go
on my own again

Hi Larry, Thank you for your comments and your openness, I always find it refreshing. Hope you're able to look beyond what's causing the hurt and see the real connection. Sala Kahle my friend. Russ
Russ, very good hub, thanks.
"Love is a bed full of blues"
Very often it is true.
Vladimir
Hi Vladimir, thanks for your comments. Yes, unfortunately it is true. Regards, Russ
Great hub, and the Picasso is my favorite from the artist. I much prefer his blue period to his cubist. I was introduced to your verse at Larry's "place."
Hi Habee, great to see you here, thanks for your visit and your comments. I also like Picasso. I was at the Ashmolean museum in Oxford, United Kingdom on Sunday and saw an amazing very early painting of his and was reminded at how versatile he was.

Hi Russ...Here it's 3 in the morning...couldn't sleep...opened up HubPages, found your latest, made some coffee, and just finished savoring your blue haiku...the theme suited my mood perfectly, gave communal comfort to my unsettled thoughts...a rift with my son is the genesis for my blues...love can be so cruel when least expected, and from hidden quarters...your timely haiku has helped assuage the pain of a bruised love...tomorrow is another day...The pics and prose fit together perfectly, and the choices of song are right on... Hamba Kahle, my friend..Larry
