Chest Hair Removal is more common in men than in women. While chest hair was once considered attractive for men, this perception has slowly changed. Body builders and athletes were the first male professionals who preferred a hairless chest. This was because the hair was uncomfortable combined with sweat while practicing their feats. Many sportsmen felt that hair interfered with their overall performance. Women who developed excess hair growth on the chest because of hormonal imbalances are also candidates for chest hair removal.

In previous years, the method commonly used for Chest Hair Removal was shaving because it was a cheap and easy method. The problems with shaving were that it sometimes left an unsightly rash, ingrown hairs and bumps. The effect of shaving is short and hair grows back in a few days as unattractive stubble. Shaving has to be a daily routine and unsuitable for large areas like the chest. Bleaching to lighten the hairs on the chest to make them less visible was suitable for women but sometime skin can react negatively to the chemicals. Depilatory creams and lotions that contain chemical hair removing properties were not suitable for all skins and since the surrounding skin of the hair follicle suffered damage.

Waxing can remove chest the hair for weeks at a time but hair growth on the chest is generally quick and the process is extremely painful. Electrolysis on the chest is painful and while it can lead to permanent hair removal, the treatments can take years to fully complete. The most advanced and painless method of Chest Hair Removal is laser hair removal. This is because all laser equipments use a cooling agent to protect the surrounding skin before the concentrated firing of a light impulse to destroy the hair follicle. This process is painless and has no known side effects. Men and women today resort to laser hair removal to get hair off their chest long term.
