Hair Removers: Buy Epilator Shavers
76Looking for a longer lasting shave?
Consider epilating. Why? Regular shavers just shave hair at the surface. Personally, I am sensitive to shaving (my legs) and can’t do it too often or I break out. Not a lovely site. Also, it’s no fun at all to have to deal with unsightly, scratchy stubble for days before I can shave again.
I waxed my legs for a while, which is a good option, but it can be pricey, and you have to make the appointments...no big deal for many. For me, a stay-at-home-mom with little ones and a lack of babysitters and budget to pay for same, it’s kind of difficult. With waxing, the hair grows back a little thinner, so it’s not so scratchy, but once it starts to grow back you have to wait and deal with hairy legs until it’s long enough to get it waxed again, which is usually around ¼ inch long.
Epilators changed my life
Then I discovered epilators. Changed my life. Epilators work similar to waxing in that they pull your hair out from the root. Most ladies tweeze, or have tweezed at some point, their eyebrows, right? Well epilating is similar – imagine like 40 tweezers working in unison to pull out, at around 32,000 tweezes per minute, your unwanted hair. Now the only drawback here is that there can be some pain associated with epilating. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, so it’s hard to say just how much pain. I can tell you this much: the first time you do it is the worst. As with waxing, the hair comes back finer every time and that decreases the amount of pain associated with the epilating significantly. As everyone’s hair growth cycles vary, the amount of time between using your epilator will vary, but typically you can enjoy hair-free days for at least a couple of weeks, sometimes up to three or four weeks. Sometimes touch-ups are needed in between to get those hairs on a different cycle. The best part is that, unlike with waxing, you don’t have to wait until the hair gets long to epilate again! Most epilators – the good ones – will get even the very shortest of hairs.
Here's a top 5 list of hair epilators:
The Braun Silk-Epil Xpressive Epilator
I own this one and love, love, love it. It has a pivoting head that contours for more thoroughness. The smartlight is one of its best features - truly highlights every hair! The Xpressive features a massage system that stimulates skin before and sooths it after to reduce pain. It comes with shaver head and trimmer, massage system, an efficiency cap, and a beginner cap and pouch. This one is corded, but the cord is long enough that I have plenty of slack when I plug it in and sit on the floor to begin my hair removal session. I prefer the cord also because I never want to deal with the possibility of losing battery power in the middle of shaving.

Final comment:
One word of caution if using on areas where skin is not taught such as the armpit area, be sure to pull skin as taught as you can, because people have complained about skin being pinched in these areas – ouch! - although I have not experienced this myself. Enjoy a hair-free life!

Thank you! Excellent question - my husband has used my epilator for areas such as shoulders and back. I know a lot of men do, actually, but I have not known anyone to use an epilator on the face - epilating is similar to waxing and some women wax their face (eyebrows, upper lip), so why not epilate the face - it may be a painful experience, though, and expect, perhaps, some irritation. I'm intrigued now and will do some more research and get back to you later today, okay?
Ok, here's what I learned - lots of men asking that question and all getting different answers. The one constant is that the face has a lot of sensory nerve endings, so the potential for it being more painful than, say, the arms or legs, is big. Just like using it anywhere else, though, the hair comes back finer so it's easier and less painful the subsequent sessions (I call them my torture sessions - good for stress relief!). If you're going to try it I would suggest getting an epilator with a smaller attachment, like the Panasonic Epilglide that has the attachment for bikini/armpit area - may be easier. Also, very important to exfoliate after - not immediately after, but several days after and on occassion to avoid ingrown hairs which can occur with epilating, just like with waxing. Hope this helps you, wesleycox, and anyone else wondering the same.

So I find this hub very well put together and informative, except for one thing. Can a guy use one of these for their face. I hate shaving and I hate having a beard. Any ideas?
