Learning About Hair Growth

Before hair replacement for women is looked at in greater depth, it is important for the person who is contemplating the hair replacement to understand the reason that their hair was lost and the way in which their hair grows.

Although many of the links around this website will provide you with in-depth information into the hair growth cycle, it is basically a three period cycle, which is continuously repeated throughout a woman’s life.

Anagen, Catagen and Telogen

The first stage of the hair growth cycle is known as the anagen.  This is the main part of every woman’s hair cycle as it lasts for up to two years, with the hair growing at approximately one and a half inches every month throughout this period.

After two years, the catagen stage begins, where the hair does not grow at all and simply stays at the same length as it was when the anagen staged ended.

Telogen is the final stage and similar to catagen, the hair does not grow during this period, but instead it relaxes and rejuvenates itself, ready for the whole cycle to begin once again.

Hair Transplant

The most popular type of surgical hair replacement for women is a procedure known as the FPB technique.  A form of skin graft, the FPB technique is a process in which a qualified, professional and experienced Medical Doctor takes a skin graft from a part of the head where hair is growing and grafting it onto an area where growth has stopped.

Whilst it is a common procedure, it takes an experienced Doctor to ensure that the procedure runs smoothly as if it is not carried out properly, it is very easy for the hair to die off.

Aftercare

Once the transplant of hair has been fully complete – which may take several months or years depending on the severity of the baldness and where it is on the head – it is important to take full and proper care of all of your hair.

By exploring the links on this website, you will be able to gain a greater understanding of hair care, particularly after a hair replacement for women procedure has been carried out.  However, with this in mind, good quality hair oil that is suitable to the person’s hair type should be used until a full and proper hair care routine has been researched, designed and implemented.
