You know what one thing that gets me going more than anything is when Xbox 360 players say that Halo 3 is the best first-person shooter ever made. I have to say you guys are crazy first off, you have to be completely ignorant of the very history of the first-person shooter. Just because it was made for an Xbox does not make it the best first-person shooter ever. So I'm going to teach you guys a little bit on why Halo 3 sucks, how it's not an original game, and how there isn't anything special about Halo 3. It's just a carbon copy of the normal first-person shooter games. So first off, just to show you exactly how ignorant you are, let's start at the beginning,
Roots
The very first, really big first-person shooter was Wolfenstein 3D. If you want to talk about groundbreaking then Wolfenstein 3D was definitely the most groundbreaking of the first-person shooters. It is literally in the grandpa of the first-person shooter genre, what's Awesome is the fact that IDSoft couldn't leave this stuff alone, so the very following year they brought out Doom.
These two are the games that literally the entire industry is now built upon. Without these key games the industry would have gone nowhere, but we also wouldn't have to put up with the cheap imitations like Halo 3.
True 3-D
Now, if you think about it, Wolfenstein 3D and Doom really weren't 3D games. The next really big game that was released, also by IDSoft, was Duke Nukem 3D. Again not really a 3D game, it used a lot of 2D tricks to give it the appearance of being a 3D game, but we really didn't get a true 3D game until Quake came along.
This was way beyond what we had ever experienced before and it was so cool! Quake was built off of polygon graphics, not 2D sprites. You could literally look at all sides of an enemy. The other beautiful thing about Quake is that IDSoft actually encouraged user made modifications, where a user could come in at any given point in time and change how the game reacted, or add new maps.(I don't see Halo 3 being able to do that!)
Now I know you're probably thinking that it was a first when it came to console games. Again that's just not true.
If we want to talk about a console game that truly broke ground in the genre, as far as the first-person shooter is concerned, you better start looking towards Nintendo and for a game called Goldeneye 007. Sure is a game that truly gives you the multiplayer ability that the consoles have, but again the PC has always had better first-person shooters.
In 1998 Sierra released, what in my opinion, was the best first-person shooter at the time. It was definitely groundbreaking, and they made a truly spectacular game. That title was called Half Life. If you want to talk about where Halo 3 has gotten all of its ideas! In Half-Life, one of the creatures is called head crabs, which coincidently looks almost exactly like what the flood looks like in Halo. Copy Cats! They couldn't even come up with an original design!
If you don't believe me just go pick up the High-Resolution pack of Half-Life. You will see that this is a game that has been around long, long before Halo ever thought of being made. And almost all of the ideas that Bungee got for their game came almost directly from Half-Life. Almost all of the content of Halo has was ripped almost completely out of Half-Life.
People talk about how in Halo you have the ability to drive vehicles. Well that sort of stuff has been around for ages too, Unreal Tournament 2004 had vehicles. They also had capture the flag and better yet assault game modes.
Conclusion
Just saying in conclusion, Halo fan boys, do not bother to claim your sub-par game is the best game in the world, it just shows how truly ignorant you are. The story, the graphics and the game play are absolutely nothing new. So before you start getting on my case about what I've said, I hope that you do your homework, and don't come to with me with irrational claims. The simple fact is that Halo doesn't do anything new and doesn't advance the genre at all.
Halo would be nothing without its predecessors, and proper respect should be paid to them. So all you Fan boys out there, do your home work, and realize that Halo is not the end all, be all, of first-person shooters. There are many, much better games out there.
Don't believe me? Go play Half-Life 2 because that is a game that is truly amazing and is really pushing the limits . One that has earned more than 40 Game of the Year Awards, and is a true groundbreaker and a leader in the industry.

Why do people like halo3 multiplayer? It has like what... 8 players max? I've been playing 64+ players online since Battlefield 1942.
You might want to acknowledge Bungie's previous FPS expearience wih the Marathon series. Marathon 1, 2 and infinity were, although released a year or two after Doom, technically superior and introduced a lot of FPS mechanics that Doom didnt. Marathon featured free mouselook when Doom players were still on the keyboard. Marathon had weapons with secondary triggers and dual weilding. Marahton's multiplayer component was also much more advanced than doom and a majority of the Halo gametypes are merely Marathon gametypes, reporposed for Halo.
You also didnt bring up the fact that Halo3 is just that, number 3. Of course it isnt groundbreaking, its simply a sequel. The original Halo had a lot to offer to the FPS genre. I still feel Halo has some of the most fun vehicle physics and predates UT2004 which was far from the first FPS with vehicles. The eternally bug prone Codename Eagle let 32 people play with vehicles and guns around the time of Quake3. The HL2 buggy is cool, but does it climb over boulders and never get permently stuck in level geometry?. Halo featured a real dedicated Grenade button, something that I couldn't live without. Sure it wasnt the best FPS to date but you have to acknowledge its merits.
I dont own an Xbox of any kind and I love Half-Life and think its a great game, but I think your hatred of Halo3 is a bit misguided and you need to know more of your FPS history before you make claims of Bungie's unoriginality.
Ok, well you might be right about Bungie's earlier games but you have to ask yourself if what they are doing now is all that wonderful. They are not pushing the genre. but i have to give props to Dark Messiah Of Might and Magic. They would have had a killer game if they had taken the time to fixed the bugs, but they got impatient and killed the game in the process, but at least they were pushing the envelope.
The purpose of this is to knock the fan-boys back into place, Because I just get tired of hearing about how good Halo 3 is.

Not many people heard about Marathon because it was only for Mac. Bungie used to be a Mac developer before they moved on to PC and then Xbox, one of the only good mac developers so the series was incredibly popular among the 20 or so people that owned macs and played games in the late nineties. Marathon 2 was ported to PC but it was years after its Mac release and by that time Quake was on the scene so it kind of got lost. I played them because my dad owned a mac at the time and it was the only computer in my house.
As for Bungie now, I agree that they arent really revolutionizing anything except their multiplayer browser system. Although nobody else is either. ID software hasnt improved anyhting but graphics quality since Quake. Crysis, although amazing, isn't really revolutionary. The last revolutionary FPS I can think of was Theif: The Dark Project. Even Half-Life 2 isnt really revolutionary in its actual gameplay until you introduce the gravity gun (Portal, on the other hand is a step forward, and a big one at that). Without the gravity gun Half life 2 is pretty similar to everything else, except that its incredibly well done and polished to perfection. I think while Half-Life 2 is the best slow paced singleplayer game at the moment, Halo 3 is the best fast paced silly arcadey feeling multiplayer FPS at the moment (Sorry UT3 I just dont like you that much). Its not really an advancement in any way, just well polished stupid fun. Like Quake3, which I still prefer to Halo.
As for Marathon, if youve got some free time you owe it to yourself to play it. The whole series is availble for free and through the Aleph One frontend is perfectly playable on Windows. Get the Marathon files here http://trilogyrelease.bungie.org/ and Aleph One here http://source.bungie.org/

Marathon has to be one of the worst games ever. Just trying to play it now makes you want to throw up. Halo 3 is extremely over hyped and overrated. I have been saying that about halo 2 though as well. Sure it had great CONSOLE online play, but the community and online commeradory have been there and far stronger for other games... Like counter strike, or TFC. Halo three is just riding the wave of other games and is trying to dumb down and market a cult-like following that other games deserve far more.
It's about the community and the integration.

Even as a FPS fan I still cant grasp why people claim Halo as the god of FPS games. And in my mind putting a game with a mediocre singleplayer story and unoriginal multiplayer gameplay in such a high position is an insult to the other FPS games that are truly great.

Just to tell you that id software never made Duke3d. 3d Realms did, along with Rise of the Triad. Don't forget about Raven's Heretic, Hexen, Soldier of Fortune series, as well as star trek voyager elite force. Ritual did SIN. That's all I could think of for now.

It has been my experience that when people say "the best (whatever) of all time" what they really mean is the best (whatever) they've experienced. Many of the Halo fans are quite young and the series might be their first exposure to the FPS genre. Because of the nostalgia effect a person is more likely to judge their first experience with something as the best despite any objective facts. Couple this with the indomitable Microsoft marketing machine and like magic you've conjured "the greatest fps ever". Furthermore, the under 20 crowd these days seems given to obnoxious hyperbole. Excessive use of the word "awesome" and "the best (whatever) ever" are running rampant.
Now I've played the Halo series and it's fun, and I especially like the music. The games have high production values and are relatively polished. Does this make them the best, greatest, most revolutionary, most insert you favorite out of control adjective here? Absolutely not. Most gamers over 30 know the origins of the fps genre as well as the milestones like Doom, Quake, Half-Life, and great crossover fps titles like Descent and Battlezone (1999). However, may I suggest that what really "sucks" are the innumerable legions of vulgar Halo fanboys who's myopic devotion to the series results in violent behavior when the legendary status of their beloved game is challenged. What's worse is that because I'm a working adult and my playtime is MUCH more limited than most of these annoying little urchins, they're all better than me, grrrrrr!!! God bless whoever came up with the mute button. :-)
Just like Blizzard did with WoW and mmorpgs, Halo didn't really invent anything new for the genre but they did make it more accessible than ever before. Back in the day, before broadband, we had lan parties where some technical skill was required before you could enjoy headshotting your buds. Furthermore, network multiplayer code was in its prepubescence and you had to patch, tweak and reboot your way to a good time. These days all the kiddies have to do is plugin and turn on. By increasing the number of online players, as well as the ease with which they are able to do so, you naturally increase the number of players who have no real appreciation for multiplayer gaming since they never had to apply any effort to the experience. This naturally leads to a since of entitlement which, as we all know, breeds a bunch spoiled tantrum bags playing the game. I sympathize with your frustration and can only hope that the blessing of maturity will shield you from a bunch of annoying fanboys ruining your good time. Remember, everyone younger than you is a noob. ;-)

I am not a big fan of Half-Life, mosty because I am impatient. Halo 3 is my favorite game off all time, along with Bioshock and CoD4. It is always about blowing stuff up and shooting things CONSTANTLY! That keeps my attention. Also I want you to watch 3 or 4 videos on youtube. They are by a little kid called OblivionHero522. He says why he thinks Halo 3, Gears of War, Orange Box and another game (forgot) sucks, I'm gonna go and slander him again.
When I first played Halo 3, I wasn't massively impressed. However, after playing multiplayer (online) for a few hours, I really began to see why people like it. It's just pure fun!
You're right that Halo 3 doesn't really do anything particularly new, but what it does do is brilliant. It's not deep and, despite what some will say, it's not overly tactical, but it is a great deal of fun.
That said, I found the single player mode to be very average - but that may be because I'm not that into the Halo series and didn't really get into the story.

I must say, I too do not understand at all why everyone loves Halo 3 so much. However, I found that your article is innacurate. If you want to judge a game, and how it copies another, you can't go nitpicking like how you can drive vehicles. You are able to drive vehicles in almost every damn game. You also seem to not point out one of the very reasons why Halo 3 is so bad: The storyline.
On a side note, Halo 3 did not take all of its ideas from just Half-Life. It took it from a variances of games that were made through ~ 1996-1999 Such as Starcraft , Starship Troopers, and Half-Life
Sir, You think that Duke Nuken was the first 3D FPS? Think harder. Descent realsed by Parallax Software did what Doom and Wolf 3D could not. True six degress of freedom. This game is underrated and Doom is overrated IMO.

As far as multiplayer FPS games go, I think it is fair to say that Halo is decent, but overrated. The far superior Team Fortress 2 trumps it both creatively and technically.

I used to love playing Halo 3, but honestly I have played it until I am fed up with it and Bungie. Bungie are uptight A-holes, gave me a ban for posting an honest thread on B-Net so with all my anger towards them I broke my copy of Halo 3 and I will NEVER buy anything else Bungie has a hand in making. Plus if my Xbox 360 tears up 1 more time it is getting pawned for a PS3 lol.
You guys are so right though about Halo 3 or any Halo for that matter. If your some young kid of course you will love Halo, because that is what you have been exposed too, and a kid like that can't go back and appreciate some of the original FPS's you guys have mentioned.
NothingNew, I disagree with you about "Who plays for the story?" I do. Like if Mass Effect had a bad story I wouldn't play it as much. Oh and Halo 3 is all A button, Right trigger and B. That's the entire game. Right Bumper is optional. If you want NEW, play Far Cry 2. Far Cry 2 is one of the only games that allows you to play ANY way you want without stopping you.

When it comes to FPS games I enjoy the lot of them. I will try all games on any system. I own an Xbox 360 and enjoy playing Halo, the multiplayer is fun but so are other games multiplayer. Halo's story is all right nothing horrible about it though. I am 16 years old so I am of the age of teens who play it and of the age who have, what most people would think never played Doom, Duke 3D, Half-life, and Quake but I have. I played Golden Eye when I was in second grade all the time, loved it. After playing Halo 3 on my 360 for almost a year I downloaded Duke Nukem 3D off Xbox Live, loved it. I also downloaded Doom of live and loved that also. If I had a PS3 I would for sure be playing games like Killzone 2 and others FPS games. Im sure that if you are a truly love games, which is probably the case because you are actually reading this, and are a fan of FPS games you would not say halo sucks. There are only two things you can say about any of the fps games Cyberburnz has mentioned including halo, that is a game I like, or that is a game that I dislike but it has no major flaws. I say this because the all the above games are great games, they are not poorly made by the developers and all have a big fan base. To say that any FPS game above sucks is insulting the genre, because none of them suck no arguing there, it is a matter of if you like the game or dislike it.
I think you ALL need to get lives. I mean, calling someone "ignorant" because they don't agree with you about a video game? You can't compare personal gaming choices to cold, hard scientific facts: there is no single best game in the world, its all opinion. Thus, nobody is ignorant for prefering Halo over Half-Life, the way someone would be considered "ignorant" for not knowing a historical event or date. The way you get so defensive over games when gamer boys like you don't give a darn about serious events in the world that get people killed.
Well I have to say that your argument is flawed. For one, you hurt your argument calling others ignorant. If you want to convince someone, I suggest better word choice. Furthermore, basing your argument on the fact that Halo 3 didn't bring anything new to the table and that it is a rip off of other FPS games is very weak. There really is not much more you can do with FPS games in this day in age (I guess we could have triple wielding?). As far as bringing something new to the table the dedicated grenade button AND beatdown button seem pretty new to me, and they certainly change the pace of the game.
Some of you guys may not agree, but I think the Halo series did bring a lot to the table aside from the above. The way the mechanics work in the game makes it more like an action FPS. It's no longer just about shooting and who can get the best uber weapon. In Halo you have to be dynamic in every situation, deciding when to throw a grenade, beatdown, or jump. I mean, I have had a time where I went head to head against somebody. What I ended up doing was jumping over him, turning around, and assisinating him. I turned an even situation and tipped the scale to my advantage because of my quick thinking. Can any of the other shooters do that? Half the times it's the first who gets shot is gone. Halo is fast pace, but not too fast. I mean I have seen Counter Strike, TF2, HL2, and it's just ridiculous how fast people run and jump. It is sometimes laughable even because you watch people jumping like crazy to make as a form of dodging. From what I read it makes me question whether or not some of you have even played Halo. And yes I have played the mentioned games. In fact I own all of them and in my opinion they do not top Halo. However I do agree that TF2 is quite fun, but I see it more as a strategy FPS.
Well time to wrap up. What I'm trying to say is that saying that Halo sucks is just... no. I mean when you think about it every FPS game is a completely different game no matter how similar they are. They each fulfill different needs for different players. Halo is the top for me because it has what I want. Simple playing style with even playing fields to make it super competitive.
halo 3 is definatly not competitive. halo 2 is probably the most competitve game of its type out there but halo 3 took all of the skill away. halo 3 is a game of random luck. people who think they are really good at the game are most of the time just noobs. unless they are in mlg of course. (btw, if some one is bragging about how good they are at halo 3, just ask them if they prefer to use the assault riffle or the battle riffle. if they choose the "ar" they are most likely a completely lucky noob that would actually suck if some skill were involved with the game. if they choose "br" then they could have some skill at the game... depending on if they are actually good at using the br or not. either way, if they are playing halo 3 still, then you should be a good person and buy them a better game like resident evil 5 or something.

I like to play Halo because it is fun and I have a good time while playing it. I agree with you, Cyberburnz, about the obsessive fanboys who claim that Halo is the pinnacle of existance.
That being said, I see no reason to say that Halo 3 sucks just because it offered nothing new to the FPS genre (which it did, in a way, by means of the theater mode and Forge, which was a completely new thing to many console players).
I also know that a lot of people know of and love all the classics (Wolfenstein, Goldeneye, etc.), myself included. My wish is that games would be judged based on their own slight deviations from the "cut n' dry" FPS formula, not all lumped together in one big melting pot of judgement.
P.S. Cyberburnz -- thanks for being the one person out of a million who actually advocates, enforces, and uses civil language in your posts. If only more people were like that...

Finch has an excellent rebuttal here. I am a huge gamer, and are a big fan of both Halo and Half Life (and pretty much every other valve game). Halo 3 is my current number 1 game, and I think the reason people like it so much is because it is a console game that offers a huge amount of variety. With the forge map editing system, theater mode, and bungie supplying special playlists for weekends, new maps, updates, and an internet site that is the best I've ever seen for a video game in my life, gamers can do alot more on Halo than with most other console games.
Halo: Combat Evolved was, in my opinion, a huge revolution in gaming. Maybe not as much as Wolfenstien or Marathon, but what captivated me was the huge focus on story, and the perfect blend with orchestra music. You see, before Halo:CE, I had only heard 8-bit music on my gameboy, but Halo simply astonished me. As for other reasons, refer to Finch's...they are all of mine as well.
As for fanboys, they just are trying to pretend Halo is still king of gaming. Well, its not. Call of Duty has really stepped in to challenge Bungie, and with lots of other titles like Gears of War and Team Fortress 2. Halo most certainly does not suck. Its still one of the best games on the market. I think you should have titled your argueent "Why Halo 3 is not the best game ever" rather than saying its garbage.

Halo 3 does not suck. Wolfenstien 3D *spelling* was a good game, but it really has nothing to do with Halo 3. Honestly. You comparing those two games is like comparing Pong to Sega Super Stars Tennis.
Just because it does not do anything new, dosn't mean it's a bad game.
In fact, I think it's a good game because the feel of the game never changed.
I mean, Playing Halo: Combat Evolved on PC sometime reminds me of the good ol' days of playing Doom when I was younger.
IMO, Half Life 2 was very sub-par. I really didn't like it. In fact, it was terrible.
Counter Strike: Source is better and it's just a mod of the game!

i'm a 13 year old, amd i don't have a lot of experience with gaming, but i like the halo series for its gameplay, and its storyline, while it's basic controls and setup is mostly imitative as you said, it tweeked it some and made it just right for me, while not completely ground-breaking, it took what was out there and improved it, i don't think its the best game ever, but its my favorite because it's a good, solid game that you can pretty much always depend on.
with halo 3 the forge and theater modes made replayability (sorry i'm a dumbass and i dont know if that's even a word.is amazing and features like skulls and glitches make it even better.
the storyline in my opinion is one of the best in games today, and i really like the mortality in it and how real it feels, again not the best but solid. and ependable

I have been playing games all my life and first of all i would have to say that halo has a fairly good story line and a fairly good multiplayer. But people (mostly new gamers cause its usually the first game they play) pushed it to far, i personally think that RSV2 and other realistic games are much better just becouse of the fact that they are takeing place in todays society and plus halo looks like a cartoon then a life like game especially with the game engines there are today

1. they let you know you are marcus fenix Cog gear in a war against Locust who came from underground 14 years ago ..ect. they have sooo much story! you find cog tags and have side quest(find doms wife is a good ex.) in gears you do diff. things it keeps u on your toes!'free marcus from jail-get to helicopter -save alpha squad-find resinator-go to the stranded and get through the night through kryll and drive the junker(car) ect. ... in gears each and every person has a different personality

4.in gow u need skill... u wall bounce(always), take cover hard aim(not me but) ,, you actually need skill to snipe! not just shoot someone in the shoulder..in gow you hit there head and it falls off and blood rushes out their head... and for the lil lil kids that play the game anyways you can turn gore off ... and the maps are great in gow! they have perfect weapon spawns theres good ,movement and everything..

I liked Halo in the fact that is it really fun to play for short periods of time! The only advancement that is truly worth merating about Halo 3 from Halo 2 is the graphics! :-/ I NEVER follow the storyline of Halo - it takes me about 4 times round and repeated watching of my friends playing to catch what is going on! Not because I'm a retard (which is debatable) but because 1. who gives a ****?! :S and 2. It's never presented in a coherent fashion!! :-(
I love DOOM and I suggest all of you to try Skulltag! :D :p its full of 13 year old boys but it is a great revival of the game for me as I had completely forgot about it! - plus it has great levels designed by other players! Truly, truly, difficult!!
Oh and BTW does anyone know a way to get Dungeon Keeper (Gold) onto vista?! :S :( seriously need to play this game!! :-( :p

Most of your article is incorrect. There were 3D games before Wolfenstein. They were primitive, but they did exist. Also, games like Doom WERE actually 3d. They rendered the environment in 3d. The enemies and weapons were 2d sprites. So Quake was the first game to be FULLY 3d, but Doom was still 3d with some 2d elements. I hate Halo as well, but you need to get your facts straight. The reason I hate halo is because it's got the slowest gameplay I've ever seen. I'm into games like Quake III Arena and Quake Live. Halo simply CRAWLS compared to these, and it requires no real reflex skill.
The thing is, you have to draw all these other sources to find elements of gameplay as good as what is found in Halo. Quake had this, HL had that, UT had some of the other - but Halo had ALL of it, and Halo did all of it really really well. Best game ever? Maybe not. Most influential FPS? Definitely not. But is it the best, most fun FPS? A lot of people happen to think that, including me, and you can't sit there telling me that your opinion is objective and factual when by the very nature of an opinion it is subjective not universal.
Note also that I'm talking about the original Halo, I think H2 was average at best- a 7.5/10, and H3 was good but just couldn't stand up the original- 8.5/10.

This article must be a joke, all I read was some 40 year old virgin whining about how his favorite old computer games are not popular anymore and how Halo is not as "ground breaking" and therefore sucks. Halo wasn't meant to revolutionize the FPS genre, it was just making a really good game, the controls are perfect, and the weapons actually mean something (unlike other games which offer 35 machine guns that all do the same thing, making 34 of them useless because one is slightly better) The multilayer is also fun, rather than being just another twitch shooter it actually needs teamwork and strategy to win.
You people are all making horrible arguements. A game is only good if its fun. Halo is fun. The story is fine,aliens vs manking is a staple for games,just like cop shows are a staple for tv shows. The worst thing about halo 3 is the multiplayer.Someone could level to 50 then switch playlists and be matched up with noobs. The betrayal system is horrible, people kick you for laughs if you accidently betray them. Grenades are uselessunless they stick or land right underneath your target. Also if you lunge at someone with an energy sword and you see the sword make contact and the noise it makes when it hits someone plays but your target shoots you with a shotgun you will die,and he wont a lot of the time. Halo 3 is fun overall,even if most people are cyrsing at their screen within 5 minutes. You cant complain about them not revolutionizing the gaming industry. Bungie doesnt say they are and the only people i hear saying halo is are the critics like you. Unless youre terrible the game is quite fun. I wouldnt say its better than cod4,where if you come up against 4 enemys and have enough skill you can kill them and on halo you cant unless you score some lucky grenades. Halo 3 remains xbox 360s most best selling game,and you cant argue with the numbers.

Halo 3 isn't the best FPS, and it doesn't suck. Its an OK FPS that lacks the same balanced multi-player that Halo CE (1) had.
I didn't just start playing video games yesterday. I started back when the only games to play were Computer Space or Pong. When Golden Eye game out we (several friends and I) played it all the time. We had a game night set up every Thursday night and we literally played thousands of hours of multi-player. Then when Perfect Dark came out we played it. In Between we played lots of Conker's Bad Fur Day, mostly the beach multi-player. So we were well versed in console First Person Shooters.
When Halo CE came out it was like a whole new world had opened. Sure many of the things that made games like Golden Eye great were there, but there were very cool additions like being able to throw a grenade with one trigger while shooting or punching with other buttons. Being able to jump was also something new for us as well as being able to use vehicles to transport teammates, as well as kill enemies. Since Halo CE came out in 2001 any game with vehicles mentioned afterwards would "owe" Halo CE for it. Sure Halo CE is looking dated and is not nearly as polished as Halo 3, but its still one of the most fair and rewarding to play, mostly because of the big learning curve and the amount of skill it requires to play well. Not bad for a game that's 8 years out of date.
We still have Halo CE LANs whenever we can, though we almost never play Halo 3 anymore. Like I said, Halo 3 is not a terrible game, it just requires so much less skill to play and is so much more luck based than it should be.
I keep hoping that Bungie will figure out what they did right in Halo CE and use that knowledge to make a new skill based Halo game. Maybe ODST will be better. We'll see.
For those of you stating that Halo has great multiplayer...and a great community...I have but one question. Are you high on crack-cocaine?
Honestly. The multiplayer is a hair short from the worst I've ever seen. Not only do the leeches are Bungie make you have to pay to play any of the slightly decent game-types, but all of the community is composed of bratty little pubescent raging nerds who are usually A. Racist, B. Five or C. a Trashtalking nerd. And even as I speak right now people are lining up to buy ODST.
Halo, as well as many games, requires very little skill. Its based on luck and whoever has the best connection. Trust me, I know. I've played Halo. I'm fairly 'good' as fans would say too. So your argument of me not liking the game because I suck is automatically debunked before it could leave your mouth.
The physics and everything...terrible. When you've run out of ammo two people run at one another and bunt each other. Luck decides who dies...or if they both die...or none at all and the game just lags you out completely.
Multiplayer is terrible. 'Nuff said. As is its fanbase and community. Worst I've ever seen aside from the Diablo 2 fanbase...The Difference being I actually like Diablo 2.
I just to point out that the first Halo game was released in 2001, um, kinda like 3 years before Unreal Tournament 2004. So, Unreal Tournament 2004 was not the first FPS to have vehicles. And I am not a Halo fanboy... I was one of the last people to play Halo, ever! My first impression was, "This is what everybody is going so crazy over? It's just another FPS!" The Halo games are not terrible, but not the best, I'd say.
Just because you all more than likely blow at Halo doesn't mean it "sucks", you just suck. Wolfenstein and Doom are both terrible games. Who gives a rat's ass if they were the first in the genre? Being the first doesn't mean it's the best. The Halo series is solid and extremely fun. What exactly is unoriginal about the game? Name another game that is anything like it. Don't worry, you won't be able to so don't waste your time. If you didn't like the single player, you obviously have a very difficult time following story lines because it's one of the most epic stories ever. So much so that there's a movie in the works for Halo. I just don't get what people are whining about. If you don't like Halo, go play another FPS and stop crying about a video game.
The people who like halo 3 are the ones who play it solely for the multiplayer, or who only play the story mode on easy, and only easy. Anything above easy is so tedious it takes not skill, only perseverance and luck. You keep playing until you lose the will to live, or get lucky. You come out of cover, get shot, go back, come out, go back.

ok so i do play halo only becuase most of my online friends do. BUT i have becomemore and more frusterated with the fact that their updates have made certain weapons stronger/weaker. when you make a game you dont adjust the combat dammage. for instance the AR is now alot more acurate, i've been out gunned by the AR from far range while hold a BR pulling headshots and getting killed after the second burst. (WTF?) on top of that, just as much as WoW you find more kids on here saying "f**king fa**ot" more tan anything.
to top it off they are too lazy to even come up with some new maps. (citidel, last resort, avelanche, sandtrap/box blackout) and frankly isolation is a horrible map. bungie NEEDS to reconfigure and reballence the entire game.
they should also be more worried about putting halo 3 on PC other than making new titles. suriously they came out with halo wars and halo ODST within 2 years of each other. and the story line is way to short. i can run threw the game on legendary and beat it solo within 4-5 hours....
if so many people wouldnt be playing this game and mabye consider the PS3, i bet it would have a better comunity. like half the gamers in the US play a halo title every day of the week. i know a few who are so obsesed with halo that they refuse to buy other games. "why should i buy a new game and expand my horrizon, when i have to keep in touch with my halo gamers?"

Nothing new or revolutionary but there is an awesome community and bungie's system for getting into games is awesome and simple. It makes for a hassle free fun experience this is why I continue to enjoy Halo 3 over any other shooter that is the multiplayer. The single player is a footnote
