Positive is more contagious

Noetic Scientist Lynne McTaggart works with the concept that we are Co-Creators of our world. She experiments with using intention and positive thoughts to make real world changes that can be detected and measured.

Can Positive Thoughts & Moods Become Contagious?

Introducing Professor Sigal Barsade, who teaches management at the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania as an example of the viral nature of our mood. Barsade conducted experiments to test her theory that there is a "ripple effect" as people can "radiate" their mood upon others.

She found that Positive moods were more socially contagious than his bad moods, and were more likely to act like a giant virus, overwhelming the group. In fact, when Rick was in his positive state, the group actually gave him more money than he’d asked for.

Wow! Well that's one grande incentive to be in a Positive Mood. You receive not only the healthy, emotional reward, but it could also lead to material wealth.

Barsade concluded that both kinds of emotion – positive and negative – are contagious, but that positive emotions are the more powerful and stimulate others to be more cooperative.

If you think about the negative being the dark and the positive being the light, then one small candle can light up a whole room, but it is very hard to block out all the light and takes much more energy to cover up even a pinhole of light that can seep into a space.

Barsade indicates that emotions are virulent viruses and quickly infect others; elements in our brains and bodies immediately begin to copy theirs. She asks you to put this effect to the test. When someone smiles at you, do you have a natural reflex to smile back or do you have to forcibly resist doing so?

Another study resulted in this 'tuning' of emotional response between a speaker and a group of listeners. Just like when you attend a presentation of a professional 'storyteller' or actor. As the speaker [an actor] read the speech alternately using happy, unhappy or neutral inflections of speech, the participants matched the emotions while he was preforming in using a rating system.

Furthermore, when they were asked provide their attitude toward the speaker, they were least fond of the speaker with the unhappy voice.

Silver and Gold

The Happiness Virus

After learning about the 'Happiness Virus' a song came to mind. It was the poem my sister and I used to sing called "Silver and Gold" ------------>

Good friendships are like gold. Like money in the bank. Your spiritual bank.

SEPARATE FROM NEGATIVE ENERGY

In this story they say misery or what I would call depression does not spread, but I still wonder if that is true. When you are around downtrodden people, their vibes seem to pull you into a low mood.

Or maybe. . . you just leave them to their misery, so that they end up in an “isolation chamber” of their own making. Kind of like nature’s own quarantine.

Get In Contact with Positive Energy

Harvard University and the University of California, San Diego researchers documented how happiness spreads through social networks.

Hubs are Part of the Circle of Happiness

That includes Hubpages as a social network. I've been thinking a lot about why writing Hubs are addictive. It's because the folks here are communicating and trying to help each other. Even though the world out there is in a funk, the world in here - our center, is full of people who are uplifting each other. We are basically journaling our daily thoughts. We are communicating and disseminating knowledge and shared experience and wisdom. Let's go viral!

Who are you Near?

Communicable Happiness. Take a look around and check to see if the people around you are smiling. They found that when a person becomes happy, a friend living close by has a 25 percent higher chance of becoming happy themselves. A spouse experiences an 8 percent increased chance and for next-door neighbors, it's 34 percent. . .When one person becomes happy, the social network effect can spread up to 3 degrees - reaching friends of friends.

They used the 5,000 people in the Framingham Heart Study.

These are the questions they asked the participants.

  • How often during the past week would you say: I enjoyed life?
  • How often during the past week would you say:I felt hopeful about the future?

How would you answer these questions in today’s declining global environment and economy?

If you want to be happy, I recommend you move to the center. In this position you are probably more balanced and stable. It seems people will congregate around you. So, rather than company loves misery; company loves support and love.

Wow! It’s like the theory of energy and quantum physics. This is the way to heal thy self. Make a party and stand in the center of the circle.

Stand in the Center of the Circle

If I think I'm happy, then I am happy
If I think I'm happy, then I am happy

Are Human's Predictable?

Is our behavior predictable? Can we personally change the world? I believe we can. It's all based upon individual choice. We are learning how particles and people react and move in space.

It all depends upon whether you recognize where you are standing and feeling. Look in the mirror or in the face of another person reflecting you. Then move to a happier space. We can build a mass of happiness. If you realize it's all up to you and take that responsibility to change the world, your community, your home, your relationships, the result will be a better world.

We have the power to control the flow of our own energy!

You Create Your Own Happiness

  • "Who is rich? The one who appreciates what he has." (Talmud - Pirkei Avot 4:1)

Happiness does not come from what you achieve or acquire. No matter how much we have, we always want more. Happiness is an obligation. Happiness is a state of mind. Just like water can change from liquid, to gas, to solid, so can we change our perspective by changing what we think about, how we reframe, what perspective we take on ourselves. The more we count our blessings with gratitude, the happier we feel. Consciously, enjoy what you have – look at the glass as half full.

These Concepts are Worth Repeating. . .

Our behavior is NOT predictable, or is it? Yes, each of us plays a part in changing the world. Choose to be happy. Imagine happy particles moving through your body into every cell and all around you. Feel the tingle?

Take a moment to check in and see where you are standing and how you are feeling. Imagine a place in the room is a HAPPY SPACE and step into that space like a "time machine." We can build a mass of happiness. If you realize it's all up to you and take that responsibility to change the world, your community, your home, your relationships, the result will be a better world.

We have the power to control the flow of our own energy!

If you replied "No" to the poll of happiness. How about taking out a piece of paper and writing, "I am happy today." Maybe do that a few times today. Look at the paper. Then look in the mirror. Then say a prayer of gratitude for any function you CAN do, including being able to read this message.

Hi Debby! Loved your video selection. Heath O is so charming! I love the concept of choosing happiness. Why not choose happiness? Choosing feeling down can only be a bummer of a choice. People who allow themselves to be down usually say, "Well, I have reasons for being down, and no reasons for being up." But there is every reason to use the good old beha; "I need to excuse to experience and express pure joy!"

I REFUSE, yes REFUSE, to walk around in a funk. We live in the real world, and while the real world may sometimes be troublesome or irksome, we can always find somthing to smile about and be thakful. Thank you Debby for this wonderful reminder.
