Ask Susan Peters PMI Nutrition Dog Food Review
I was surprised to find that PMI Nutrition is Purina Brand Pet Food. Purina has a history of recalls and so does Purina under the PMI Nutrition label. Purina has a Class Action filed against the company for false advertising. Purina states their pet products are a healthy choice for your pet but with the large number pet illnesses and pet deaths associated with Purina it is safe to say Purina is anything but a healthy choice in pet foods. Do not feed this junk to your dog. Shame, shame, shame!
Here is what PMI Nutrition has to say about Happy Hound Brand Medium Biscuits with Peanut Butter:
Happy Hound Brand Medium Biscuits with Peanut Butter are designed as a snack or treat for dogs of all ages to be fed in conjunction with your dog's regular diet. These dog biscuits can be fed as a snack between meals or as a reward during training. Their crunchy texture helps to maintain clean teeth and fresh breath.
The first three ingredients listed make up nearly 75% of the contents of pet food. PMI Nutrition has listed Wheat flour, wheat middlings, meat and bone meal.
Let's take a look at what PMI Nutrition is asking you to feed your pet. No wonder PMI Nutrtion has a history of pet food recalls!
"Meat" is often rendered euthanized dogs and cats as well as other animals such as road-kill and diseased animals. When the source of the meat is known it will be listed as beef, poultry, chicken, turkey, etc. If the source of the meat is not known it is simply called "meat. Bone meal is ground animal of unkown type.
Wheat is a cheap filler used by pet food companies to reduce production costs. We should take time out from this review to remind ourselves of the good and bad effects of wheat in a cat or dog's diet. *Corn, wheat and soy are resonsible for fever, ear aches, ear infections, bad bread, dental disease, hair loss, dry and itchy skin, bloat, tumors, warts, moles, abnormal nail growth, arthritis, deafness, blindness, digestive problems, inflamed liver, inflamed kidneys, bladder problems, heart problems, and death. Oh yeah, for the good effects of corn, soy, and wheat - reduces the cost of pet food production. This does not sound wholesome to me!
Wheat middlings is left over trash from wheat and not fit for human consumption. Good choice in garbage, PMI Nutrition!
Beet pulp is another cheap filler used by pet food companies. "Beet Pulp" sounds good, doesn't it? Well it's not. Just because Grandma told us we had to eat our beets as kids doesn't mean it is good for our dogs. Grandma didn't take the nutrients out of the beet and leave us just the dried fiber to eat, did she? Beet pulp is junk!
Dried whole Milk - milk is responsible for a number of health conditions in an adult dog or cat. Cats and dogs should not be given milk products past the age of weening.
Because manufacturers need to ensure that dry foods have a long shelf life (typically 12 months) to remain edible through shipping and storage, fats used in pet foods are preserved with either synthetic or "natural" preservatives. Synthetic preservatives include butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), propyl gallate, propylene glycol (also used as a less-toxic version of automotive antifreeze), and ethoxyquin.
Brewer's rice and brewer's dried yeast are by-products of beer production. There you go, your little pet gets what is left over after a beer run, the stuff not fit for human consumption.
Given time PMI Nutrition will be responsible for countless pet illnesses and deaths.....mark my words!! - Susan Peters
