Lake Affect: Morning Sheen

the day begins in sheen 

 again I awaken to the the ceaseless drone of hundred air conditioners 

 it is late summer 

 the tale’s end of the hurricane season 

 the end of the words–angry weather words, angry sky words 

 but not the end of water–Thank God 

 

and so today again we going out into a wet world 

 and as farmers do from time immemorial 

 raise a harvest to the heavens 

 we grow pieces of the sky a liquid mirror 

 our crop shimmers in gossamer fashion 

 at the break of day 

 amidst the humming wings of a thousand dragonflies 

 at the age of man just before dawn 

 Sheen on a morning lake
