TDK says that manufacturers of hard drives will be able to sell discs 2.5 Tb in January 2010.
New playback heads, TDK provides that manufacturers of hard
drives. The current heads are capable of managing a density of 500 GB
per platter 3.5 inches and 250 GB 2.5 inches. The roadmap shows
densities of 320 GB per tray 2.5 inches and 640 GB 3.5 inches.
Imagine what the 2.5-inch hard drives of 640 GB on two platters, and
even three 960 GB platters, as well as formats for 3.5 inch Go 2560 on
four plates, a nice 2.5 TB And even which try to achieve the 3.2 to
five trays, why not.
This advance represents a 28% increase
in density on the plates 3,5 and 24% for 2.5-inch formats. No estimate
of performance, but the transfer rates should logically go with the
storage density.
But why do we talk about TDK increased capacity and not the manufacturers of hard drives? Simply because it is a Japanese manufacturer of technology that will allow this increase in power. The last head of PMP TDK can read between 24 and 28% more information on the same area, which means that Western Digital, Seagate and others can produce and use trays denser, which was not the case before.
