Throughout the history of motorcycles, there has always been some kind of allure of a brotherhood or a bond amongst riders. You can witness this daily as you watch two motorcycle riders pass each other on the road. Inevitably some kind of greeting takes place, it may be a head nod, a wave, a thumbs up, who knows but they will acknowledge each other based on nothing more than they both ride motorcycles.
Where this need to belong to a group comes from, nobody knows, but it is there. In days gone by, bikers would congregate in a bar or clubhouse and knock down a few beers and swap war stories into the wee hours of the morning. In the digital age, it's a bit different. While the biker bars are hardly gone the way of the dinosaur, a new clubhouse has formed and that is the internet forum or bulletin board.
Modern Day Biker Clubhouse
The clubhouse of today is digital and allows riders from all over the country to congregate and share those stories, without ever leaving the comfort of their house. The message board is commonplace around the internet and in a variety of niches so it is no surprise that you will find it in the biker world.
A message board is an internet forum where users can register and post messages to each other. They can customize their profile, their signature, their images etc to seperate themselves from the pack, much the same as one would do to their motorcycle. These forums run 24 hours a day and don't even close on Christmas. The Ultimate Biker hangout.
Most Popular Forums
So if you are rider in seach of a motorcycling forum then we've brought together some of the ones we've found, specifically in the Harley Davidson arena. Harley forums are all over the internet but only a select few are worth visiting in our opinion. We've listed each forum and a snapshot of it's "personality" below.
HDForums - http://hdforums.com - This forum might be the biggest Harley Forum on the net and it attracts a huge range of riders from around the country, maybe even the world. I've been a member of this forum for years and the personality has ebbed and flowed throughout those years. It used to be more fun to hangout in my opinion, but as of late has become quite corporate with a LOT of rules and strict moderator enforcement. Kind of annoying in my opinion.
VTwinforums - http://vtwinforums.com - This forum is similar to HDForums in some ways but is kind of the gearhead version. What I mean by that is this seems to be the forum for those who not only like to ride their Harley Davidson but also work on it themselves. It has an extensive technical archive and just about any Harley Davidson question can be found here.
Planet Hawg - http://planethawg.com - This site is still new to the world it appears and the forum is developing still. I don't see many ads on the forum and I like that. What is cool about this site is that a fairly extensive collection of product reviews appears to be developing and the reviews are user generated, not some marketing junk planted on a website to get you to buy. I like that and think this could grow into a massive someday along the lines of http://mtbr.com for the mountain biking enthusiasts.
These are just three of the forums that I have found or know about and I am sure that there are dozens more but these three show a lot of promise and you can likely find whatever you might need at one of these three.
