59Who is Harry Kewell?
Born on 22 September 1978, Harold "Harry" Kewell started playing football in his school. With the U14 team(Marconi Stallions) he travelled to Thailand, Italy and England. While playing in England he was offered a trial with Leeds United along side Brett Emerton who also have had a succesful European career. His grandfather who had English roots helped him to have a work permit. Brett Emerton was not that lucky.
He played 143 matches in his 8 seasons in Leeds. He was the star of the Leeds team that made it to the semi finals of UEFA Cup 2000. Leeds lost to Galatasaray in that semi final. After Leeds went bankrupt he was sold to Liverpool. He played in UEFA Champions League Final in 2005. He was hit by severe injuries during his spell in Liverpool.
In the beginning of 2008-2009 season he was transferred to Galatasaray where he became an instant fan favourite. He scored in his first official match against Kayserispor to help the team win Super Cup. However Leeds fans were in fury due to his transfer to Galatasaray as 2 Leeds fans were murdered in Istanbul in 2000.
He played in 39 national team games scoring 13 goals in total. He was the youngest Australian national player as he played the national shirt first time in 1996 against Chile.
He is married to Sheree Murphy and has 3 kids. He supports Canterbury Bulldogs rugby team.
