Magic Jack Review
64Is magic Jack A Good Investment?
I purchased the Magic Jack several months ago and I would say yes, it is well worth the very minimal investment. I have been very pleased and would definitely recommend it. For anyone who doesn't know, magic Jack is a voip device that is connected to your computer which allows you to make and receive telephone calls. You pay a fee (once a year) I believe it was $35.00 for the first year and $29.00 for every year after that. There are no recurring bills or charges, you just pay the fee once a year.
Features
With the Magic Jack you can make unlimited local and long distance calls at no charge (other than the yearly fee). It is equipped with voice mail, call waiting, and you can also put in your contacts.
Drawbacks
The only drawbacks are that it must be"hooked up" to your computer to be functional with the computer turned on. I have a lap top which means that I am not always stationary and must relocate the phone jack etc.
The sound quality is usually good, but not always 100%. I frequently do teleconferences which means that I am on a call with several other people across the country and have only lost my connection once. Whether this was due to the Magic Jack or on the end of the teleconference service...I don't know.
Conclusion
So is the magic Jack a good value? I would say yes. If you find yourself making a large amount of long distance calls, or frequently going over your cell minutes and do not want to "up" your plan, as long as you can make some of your calls from home...I would say give it a try.

Magic Jack has recently started their own tele-conferancing service and will not allow you to call to into other tele-conferencing services. Makes my Magic Jack useless to me because I was trying to save cell phone minutes and do not have a land line. You can not fax with Magic Jack either, or any other VOIP. While they say that you can try to make some adjustments to your machine, VOIP is not designed for faxing and you are generally wasting your time.
