Hauntings

Athens, Ohio has been named one of the top ten most haunted places in America. Rumor has it that the counties oldest hilltop cemeteries form a pentagram with the city in the exact middle.

Ohio University

Ohio University is considered the most haunted place in town. Maybe this is due to the fact that the university was built on top of old Native American burial grounds. There are all sorts of stories about hauntings in the university.

One story is about a girls basketball team that stayed in the dorms for a basketball camp, on their way home from camp everyone of the girls died in a freak bus accident. It is said that they haunt the dorms that they stayed in and if you stand under the arch of the hall long enough you will hear the bouncing of basketballs and the laughter of the girls.

Another story includes Wilson Hall which is supposed to be cursed because it is dead center of the pentagram formed by the 5 surrounding cemeteries. All kinds of stories have come from Wilson Hall. One very interesting story is about a girl people thought was possessed. When the girl sadly committed suicide, the face of a demo appeared in the wood grain on her dorm room door. They were also bloodspots that would appear on the walls that could not be cleaned or covered, no matter how much paint was used.

The Ridges

The Ridges which first was called the State Lunatics Asylum is also rumored to be haunted. People believe some of the souls of the residents of the asylum remained there. People say you can still see them walking the halls and peering out the windows today even though the asylum has been closed down since the 1980's. The Ridges is actually owned by the University, Coincidence?
