Singleton Hall was built in 1260 by Sir Adam de Singleton, just outside the village of Goosnargh, near Preston. But the oldest inhabited brick building in England has become world famous as Chingle Hall, one of the most haunted houses of England...

1620... John Wall is born in Chingle Hall. Twenty years later, at the time of the Catholic Reformation, he is a Roman Catholic priest who practices illegal masses in the Hall. Priest holes and secret compartments are made, where one can hide if the Hall is raided by the soldiers of the King.

1678... John Wall is taken to the Worcester jail, where he is offered his life if he will forsake his religion. John Wall declines and is quartered at Redhill. His body is buried by his friends in on the grounds of Saint Oswald, but his head - a true martyr's head - is treasured by the friars at Worcester for more than a century. People are whispering the head is buried now somewhere in the Hall...

1764... Chingle Hall passes to the Farrington family. It's a hub now for zealous Roman Catholic activity. Cavities are built into the walls and tunnels are dug to the surrounding buildings as a method of escape...

A number of wooden beams going across the ceiling of the Chapel bear strange symbols. No one knows where they stand for... until some scientists take samples of the wood and find that it is much older than the Hall and has a lot of salt in it. The wood comes probably from a Viking longboat.

Somewhere in the 1950s a beam spontaneously catches fire... and then extinguishes itself. After this incident a wooden cross is found, embedded in the wall...

... is the most haunted of the Hall. This room once belonged to Eleanor Singleton, who was kept captive here for over 12 years and was murdered at the age of 17. The room is decorated now with toys and dolls.

Visitors claim to be overwhelmed by a deep feeling of sadness when entering the room of poor Eleanor Singleton. You can smell lavender, see orbs, feel phantom tugs at your clothing. Maybe you'll faint then.

1997... Parapsychologist Darren Done has a strange experience outside Eleanor's Room. While he is preparing to film the area where the phantom of a monk has been seen, he is suddenly slapped in the face hard, very hard...

A Poltergeist in the kitchen is usually rearranging the pots and pans and chances are great you will see a monk wandering through Chingle Hall, for instance upstairs, in the priest's room. A man with shoulder-length hair has been seen here walking outside the window... which is about twelve feet above the ground.

1980... Ghost hunters Gerald Main and Terence Whitaker are in the Hall, recording rapping sounds emanating from a hiding hole. There is a sudden decrease in temperature and they see 'an indefinable shape' move by...

1985... A visitor is recording in the priest's room some sounds of bricks that are being moved. He looks into a hiding hole and sees part of a hand moving one of the bricks. As he watches, the hand disappears. Later he captures the sounds of footsteps on tape and a spectre on film. Bricks are found scattered on the floor of the chapel.

1996... a team from the Northern Anomalies Research Organisation takes two photographs of orange lights appearing near the oak-beamed ceiling. The investigators don't see these orange lights but they do see small white flickering lights. Again, sounds are heard and recorded in the priest's room.
