Rhyolite, Nevada Ghost Town

Rhyolite, Nevada Ghost Town

Hard to imagine that the town of Rhyolite Nevada once had a population of 10.000 plus persons. There is even a house here built of beer and whiskey bottles because lumber was in such short supply. Its interesting to think that people once lived here and went about their normal every day activities and then one day everyone just left. Hard to imagine indeed.

And with every ghost town of course you have ghosts. There are many tales about the ghosts lurking in Rhyolite Nevada and probally more than a few of them are true. There's the brown man said to be a gold prospector who died in the town after he brought huge nuggets in to town to be tested. The legend says he was poisoned by the barber to get the gold. He is seen as a brown shadow with a big floppy hat wandering around town.

Rhyolite, Nevada Ghost Town. What else would you expect to find in a ghost town but ghosts.

Cemetery at Virginia City, Nevada

Virginia City Nevada

All kinds of strange paranormal things go on in the Virginia City Cemetery from a glowing tombstone to a tombstone that just won't stay put. People say the tombstone weighs several hundred pounds and it would take several men to moe it. The tombstone has been moved several times and no one has ever seen it move. The strange thing is that you can clearly see the path it takes when it moves.

There is a strange fire in the cemetery that has been seen for years. People say it appears to look like a regular campfire but when you get to it there is no fire and no sign of one. Some people including some police officiers have claimed to see shadows moving around the fire. Some people have also claimed to see and hear horses near the fire.

The Silver Queen Hotel in Virginia City Nevada is said to be one of the most haunted places in Virginia City. When you spend the night in the hotel it is said that people hear the sound of a huge fight some where in the hotel. Many people complain about the noise the next morning but of course it was only paranormal fight. A white mist is also seen floating around the hotel at night. It has been seen for many years. People also see the ghost of a 7-8 year old little girl in a pretty dress.

Many people claim to see the ghost of a cowboy dressed all in black walk into traffic on main street and simply vanish. Many people who see it think its a trick put on for the tourists but its not.No one has ever been able to figure out who he is but he's still being seen by many people.

There is the ghost of a large Collie Dog that people have seen all over town for many years. It has been seen to run into the sides of buildings and simply vanish.

I grew up going to Virgina City every year to celebrate the Fourth of July. I can not count the number of ghosts, wierd voices or nioses that came out of the blue and have no explination. This town is what made me a believer of the paranormal. I clearly remember walking around with my cousion and her friend around dusk and we wanted to go down to take pictures of the St. Mary church and out of the blue this boy came running out in front of us hitting a huge wooden wheel with a stick and he ran into the cymetary. We went after him and upon entering the cymetary and seeing that no one was there we realized we saw a ghost. Then another year my grandma and I were in the Bucket of Blood we went to use the rest room and we came upon two men in old cowboy clothing and one was holding a gun at first we thought they were just people dressed in period clothing then it got really cold and I think we both realized at the same time what we were seeing were ghosts I dont think Ive ever seen my grandma run so fast in her life she ws dragging me behing her.She vowed to never go back to Virgina City with us again. There was also a time when we were taking our picture in front of the wagon they used to carry the dead and for a brief second we saw the reflecton of a woman in the glass and when we looked again there was nothing. There is also a house I was told it was an old cat parlor and on the second floor you could see a woman looking outta the window waving to us in period clothing my aunt and I went inside ( I think it was a museum now) and asked if anyone was up looking outta the window and we were told that the man we were talking to was the only person in the building he even went upstairs to check!!!Also experienced wierd things in the Mark Twain library watched a book levitate and then a bunch of papers scatter all over, and at the Washoe club. Oh and on the mine tour the guide turned out the lights so we could see how dark it gets and at that time both my brother and I felt someone tugging on our shirts and were told that it happens regulary and it is the deceased miners playing games. This is such a fun beautiful place to go experience and I believe will turn any skeptic into a believer. They also have a candy shop with the best fudge and salt water taffy I have ever tasted!!! LOVE Virgina City looking forward to going on many vacations with my children there!
