The first time I actually saw a ghost was at my friend Jerome's house. I was out on the deck when I saw what at first looked like a headlight in the distance. It got closer, only there was no car. It was almost like the light of a flashlight hovering in the yard. Jerome told me that the owner, who originally lived here, died downstairs. Interesting. Was it an orb? Sometimes strange things happen at my house too. My dog can sense it. He'll start barking at the stairs, and I'll get the eeriest feeling. There's other things too, enough to make me wonder if for some reason the ghosts pick me to haunt.

Once, when I was out in the garden, I spotted a little boy and his older sister. Don't ask my how I knew they were related, I just sensed it. They both looked at me and smiled. I knew they were good spirits. A few days later, I got sick. From my bedroom window, I saw them one more time, holding hands in the garden and smiling at my window. Two little guardian angels.

A bunch of my friends go to the Episcopalian church, and they were all there for a sleepover. They started out by playing hide-and-seek, and my friend Mia hid behind a chair on the altar. As she crouched, a light in the sanctuary began flickering on and off. She peered out and saw a dark figure in the pews. Mia said that for some reason, her eyes filled with tears at the sight of him. She prayed to God to help him. The lights stopped flickering, and he was gone. The rest of our friends came running up. They didn't know what had happened, but all said it was the freakiest thing ever.

Most of the time I'm home alone, which makes all this stuff even more frightening. Like when I was walking down to the clothesline. I was right next to it, and it swung so hard it almost hit me. Oh, it was just the wind, you're probably thinking. Well, there was no wind that day! Other times, I feel like someone is watching my back. Of course, when I turn around, nothing is ever there. Once, we found a big scratch in the floor. I know I didn't do it, and I don't think my dad would lie about it either. Then there was the broken glass. It was sitting on the floor like it was the most natural thing in the world. My brother told me that when he lived here, he often heard feet coming down the stairs. Sometimes the couch would settle too, like someone sunk down into the cushions. Now, could the wind sit on a couch? I don't think so!

When I was six, I found a cat. He was all black with green eyes; the cutest cat around. Every day when I woke up, he was there waiting for me. It was the saddest day of my life when he was hit by a car. I would miss my beautiful friend so much! The day after he died, I was surprised to wake up like I had each day for months, feeling his paws on the bed. Nothing was there, yet I could definitely feel warmth and pressure on my legs. To this day, my parents don't believe it, but I know that little cat had come back to spend one last night with me.

I recently took a trip to the Rose Hill Plantation in S.C. and had an unusual experience. I should say that before my trip there I did not do any research on the house nor did I know anything about the "sightings" that have taken place there over the years. Unfortunately my experience was not as exciting as those but significant none the less. I was upstairs at the time standing in the "rest" room looking out into the large open room listening to our tour guide. I felt something touch the back part of my lower leg (I was wearing shorts) as if someone was walking by me and got too close. It was a solid brush against my leg and felt like flesh on flesh not like an inanimate object or the brush of clothing. At first I just thought someone was behind me (even though it was a small room and I didn't see anyone else enter after I did) so without really thinking about it I turned around and stepped back to give them more space. To my surprise there was no one else in the room with me, no open windows or anything blowing in a breeze, and I was standing still by the doorway and there was nothing anywhere near me that could have touched me. The experience was very unusual because as I said it felt like flesh that touched me and there wasn't a doubt in my mind that a person had caused it. I mentioned it to my girlfriend who was with me and of course she joked saying that it was the ghost of one of the children who had died in the house. It actually doesn't sound like it could be that far off from the truth.

Lou's Story is very simular to other peoples stories of incidents that have occured over the years in the house. I and a friend saw the Ghost of former Governor Gist on the steps going from the first floor to the second floor for just a few seconds and we heard the hoof beats of many horses on the drive way out side the house. Of course there were no horses. Many times over the years a detachment of Confederate Calvary Soldiers is seen in the area. And many more people report the sound of horses when their are no horses there. The Rosehill Plantation and the near by town of Newberry S.C. are considered some of the most haunted places in S,C,
