Do you want to be a great parent? Then take the "Leman 5-Day Challenge" found in HAVE A NEW KID BY FRIDAY and enjoy the benefits of a truly great family life. Here's an idea of some of the topics covered during the first five days of the challenge

THE LEMAN 5-DAY PARENTING CHALLENGE

Monday - Day 1

Dr. Kevin Leman reveals what your child's life strategy really is - and why he, or she, continues to do the things that drive you bonkers.

Tuesday - Day 2

Dr. Leman discusses the three most important things every parent wants for their child - and how to teach them in a way the child will never forget.

Wednesday - Day 3

Dr. Leman focuses on the future by asking readers: "Who do you want your child to be?" and "What kind of parent do you want to be?" Parents determine what type of parent they are by reading through lengthy descriptions of the Permissive, Authoritarian, and Authoritative (or Responsible) parent. Parents evaluate how their style of parenting affects their relationship with their child and the way their child responds to them. Leman encourages his readers with his time-tested "3 Simple Strategies for Success."

Thursday - Day 4

Dr. Leman identifies the "3 Pillars of True Self-Worth" - Acceptance, Belonging, and Competence - and teaches parents how to develop them in their child.

Parents learn the difference between self-esteem - or "feeling good" about yourself - and true self-worth. They also learn the difference between praise and encouragement: praise focuses on how "good" a person is; encouragement focuses on an action.

Friday - Day 5

Dr. Leman turns the tables on parents by asking them to "be the shrink." Parents will review the key principles they have learned and identify the "mountains" they want to address. Parents will each think through how they usually respond to circumstances, and then review the new action plan (that they have been developing since Monday) for alternative responses. Then it's time to put the plan into action.

Today is the day parents launch their action plan on their unsuspecting children. Dr. Leman reminds parents, "Above all, there's no backing down, no caving in. Your child needs to know you mean business, or you won't accomplish anything... . Your kids need you to step up to the plate so life in your home can be what it should be - a place of love, respect, and accountability for actions
