Make Training Fun!

Most folks attack physical training or exercise with some form of vengance. It usually lasts a few weeks for those who were never really committed, ever, to at least the end of the time period of their commitment. They are usually really glad when the period of duty is over and may never have a desire to put themselves through the "torture" again. I've spent years helping people learn to control their bodies or teach their bodies to perform the functions that God intended, especially after injuries and one method has consistently helped them to learn faster, heal faster, gain function faster and all with a better attitude.

I received a button with a saying on it a long time ago and it helped to form my method of training folks. It said;" You don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing!". I have applied this attitude to my work as I treated thousands of people over the years and I have seen the evidence of it's truth. If you approach any task of physical or mental learning with an " I've got to get this job done" type of attitude, the task and the learning is prolonged. If you approach the act of learning with an attitude of " let me find a way to enjoy this" or " let's have fun while we do this", then the time it takes to learnĀ  is shortened, sometimes very significantly and the task is enjoyable.

An example of this could be; following a sprained ankle or to help an ankle that is considered weak-- take an old couch coushin and begin by standing on it with 2 feet and eyes open. As you improve and while paying attention to any pain. While standing on the foam, wiggle your hips and do the hula. Once it's easy with your eyes open, then, close your eyes. Hum your favorite tune or play a CD and hula dance first with eyes open and progress to eyes closed.

You should find that while dancing the hula, and putting your whole self into the dance, your ankle will get stronger fast than with conventional methods. What happens is that your brain finds a file with the movement information in it and applies it to your Hula. Our brains also learn faster to control our bodies when we have a positive mental attitude. The nervous system learns faster and better when our attitude is Joyful and we are drawing from Brain Files that are associated with fun and enjoyment. Our brains draw from what we knew in the past and quickly associate that info with new stuff. We learn faster and better, and our brain and nervous system learns faster when applying "happy" techniques.

So, find a way to make your training fun and reap the benefits of enjoying your training!
