Have I received the Holy Ghost and nobody told me?
63Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?
Acts 2: 1-4
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Many are under the impression that at some point in their walk with God, they have been filled with His Holy Spirit. However, when asked about that moment when they were filled, the answers begin to vary. Some feel a warmth in their heart and are overwhelmed with emotion. Some say on the day they gave their lives to the Lord, they believed, and upon their belief they were filled with the Spirit of God. Others are not able to recall specific details but just know that they are.
The Bible gives clear accounts and testimonies of men and women being filled with the Holy Ghost. It is no hidden mystery; for God's Word declares that it is for everyone. It is not limited to any one denomination, but for all those who repent and are baptized in His name. Before Peter preached, he spoke with other tongues. Before the Apostles carried the gospel into Jerusalem, Judaea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth, they spoke in other tongues.
Acts 19:1-6
Paul came across certain disciples. Notice how the Bible does not classify these men as sinners or unsaved. There are millions who have, are, and will follow the doctrine and teachings of Jesus Christ. But we must all come into the full knowledge of the faith. Paul asked this question.
Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
The disciples responded in this manner.
We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
There are those who are faithful in church attendance. Some are teachers and ministers of the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. But until we are all willing to accept the entire Word just as it is, we shall fall short no matter what our title or position. There should be a deep passion in every Christian to receive all things that pertain to life and godliness. It is okay to 'not so much as heard', but it is not acceptable to be willingly ignorant.
These disciples were baptized by John with the baptism of repentance, and Paul shared with them the doctrine of Jesus Christ. The disciples were open and willing, and not full of pride and arrogance. If we ever get to a place where we become unteachabe, may God have mercy on us and revive us again.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied.
Speaking with tongues, is true, a gift of the Spirit. Therefore many who profess Christ believe that tongues is only for a select few. Many teachers, pastors, and evangelists teach that speaking with tongues is optional. Those teachings should leave us all with this question - Why not me?
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Is God not calling you? Of course He is. Is tongues not for you? Of course it is according to the Word which is infallable.
You will know when you have been filled with the Holy Ghost, because your experience will be like that on the day of Pentecost. It will be more than a warm feeling in your heart. It is a good thing to rejoice in the Lord, but the Holy Ghost is much more than a dance and a shout.
The Holy Ghost (who is God) will transform you beginning with your tongue. Oddly enough, known as the most wicken part of the body - an unruly evil. It must also be known that this experience will not just be for a moment, but for the rest of your life you will have this heavenly ability. Then as you spiritually grow and walk daily in the Holy Ghost, the gifts of the spirit will manifest in your life. You will preach like you have never preached before. You will teach and witness like you have not experienced before. The Holy Ghost will be your comforter and teach you all things (John 14). The Holy Ghost will make your prayer life effective, for it will make intercession for you (Romans 8:26).
There is little doubt the importance of the Holy Ghost, so it is so crucial to be sure that you have been filled. Speaking with other tongues will be your evidence that no one can deny. It will be your comfirmation (that God has designed) that will make your salvation complete.

Well written and absolutely true.
nice points but if i may ask, deos tongues neccessarily mean a strange as in another language or can we also say that a parable is a form of tongue as in you can hear but cannot understand unless divine intervention--help me here
Hi A mc! Sorry for the extremely late response. I am writing about literally speaking another language. In Acts chapter 2 those who witnessed the event heard the disciples speak in other languages. It is possible to not understand a parable because they have spiritual messages, but I have not heard it refered to as speaking with tongues. Thanks for reading!
