Have You Ever Met A Raccoon

They have to be one of the most unusual animals on the planet and yet many people have never met one other than possibly seeing one now and then as road kill. So what I have decided to do is put together a collection of Raccoon Videos and Photos so if you like you can take a few minutes out of your hectic day and met a Raccoon. The first thing I love about them is the mask. Have you ever wondered why the raccoon was made with a mask like a cat burglar. Well the one guy in the video there to the right steals a door mat. I don't know why he wanted it , maybe to spruce up his den but he takes it.

Over the years I have been a friend to many of the little bandits as I have come to call them and I have witnessed some remarkable things. You never know what a Raccoon is going to do and believe me they are one of the smartest animals alive. I have watched two of them work together to take the lid off a trash can where I store dog food and I have one that regularly shows up to chill on the porch and listen to the radio. If you turn the radio off or its not on he becomes agitated and looks in the window until you turn it on.

And while the videos on this page are really funny always keep in mind that a Raccoon is a wild animal and if it thinks it is being threatened could scratch or even bite to protect its self or its young. So always use care around any wild animal.

Some Fun Raccoon Facts And Etc,

Raccoons range over most of North America and now parts of Europe after escaping there from Fur Farms and being released into the forests of Germany. They pretty much stay to them selfs but can become pests in urban areas. Over time many of them can become quite tame when fed by humans but it is always best to keep in mind that a Raccoon is a wild animal.

The dark patches around their eyes looks like a mask and this is why they are called bandits and believe me they can live up to their nick name very well. They will work as a team to over come obstacles to steal pet food stored or left outdoors and if all else fails they will beg. And believe me these guys are the worlds best at begging.

One of their more delightful habits is that if water is available they will dip their food into water before eating it and appear at times to be washing their food before eating it. You should have seen the one we fed soda crackers to and he would dunk them into water and his cracker would fall apart in the water. Let me tell you that was one confused Raccoon.

Young Raccoons are born in April or May in most of North America. The mother Raccoon typically has 4-5 young and the little guys are something else indeed following Mom around and getting into all kinds of mischief.

Thanks, these are really cute. We don't have racoons in England. The only wild animals in my garden are foxes and sometimes hedgehogs. Foxes aren't much fun - make a mess and can smell bad too.
