Going to a spa for a pedicure is not just a luxury - it is accepted as a beauty regimen but you have to be careful when chosing a salon. A lot of women develop infections in their feet as a result of spa pedicures. Here are a few things to look out for when you go into a spa.

Ask the spa workers how the foot spas are maintained and how often they are cleaned. Take note of their actions while they are working on clients to see if footbaths are disinfected with each customer.

It needs to be disinfected typically 10 minutes, depending on the type of disinfectant. It is worth your health & safety to practice patience at the spa!

Make sure the workers are certified as some of them are not .

Check your skin for infection after your pedicure. Open wounds may appear on the skin of your feet and legs and can look like insect bites, but increase in size and severity over time.

Dont get a leg massage if you are allergic to some oils.

Don't get a pedicure if you have cuts or abrasions on your feet or legs. Microorganisms living in footbaths can enter through the skin and cause infection.

Don't shave, wax or use hair removal creams within a day before getting a pedicure

Don't get a pedicure if you have bug bites, bruises, scratches, scabs or poison ivy. Keep these things in mind and your feet will thank you.

Go to a reputable spa . Its better to spend a little more money and get a relaxing safe, pedicure than to save money and end up being in pain and discomfort.

Wow, great advice. Never would have thought of some of those things. I am such a fan of pedicures and I won't give them up - so I just bought my own tools. The Sole Savior pedicure kit has all the tools you need and all the instructions so I sterilize them and that way I KNOW that they are safe because I bring them with me! This isn't my website I listed above, but this is where I bought it. You can also check out the SOS Sole Savior website too - got lots of great info.

In Manicure Set you soak your feet in Luke warm water containing a few drops of Epsom salt so as to make them
softer and completely remove the old nail polish with the use of cotton bands dipped in acetone remover.
