Have it on the Rocks and With a Straw
53I know this topic is beat into the ground, AND there was just a study out saying that it isn't true. But, from personal experience and experience with clients I still believe it IS true. DRINK WATER!! Your body needs it and will thank you for it. Drinking enough water can help:
- you feel better, less sluggish and more energized
- your skin look better
- your metabolism work more efficiently
- you eat less
- you drink less of other things like sodas, coffees and sweetened teas
- your brain function better
- your body absorb vitamins and minerals better
- your body rid itself of toxins
- improve your blood circulation
- decrease your risk of kidney stones
- improve your athletic performance and recovery
Some tips to help you drink that water!
- Get a big fun plastic cup! It is just more fun to drink. But make sure it fits into your car cup holder. Yeah, my super cute, colorful polka dot cup went flying 3 times in my car. It is a BIG cup, so it was a BIG mess!
- Drink it on the rocks. It is thought to work better in your body if you drink it room temperature, but if you don't like it and won't drink it unless it is cold, ice it up baby!
- Use a straw. You won't believe how much more you will drink. It is just so much easier to drink it down through a straw.
- Flavor it up. Add limes, lemons, cucumbers, oranges, whatever it takes for you to like it. That will add vitamins and minerals too with very minimal calories!
- Warm it up. If you are cold and headed for a coffee or hot chocolate, warm up a cup of water and add lemon and honey. It will save you calories and caffeine.
- Make it a habit. If you aren't going to remember to drink it during the day, drink a big huge glass right when you wake up and one right before you go to bed. Warning - the bedtime big gulp may cause you to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night!
- Get it from Starbucks. I don't know what it is, but my favorite water is a Venti, ice water with extra ice from Starbucks!! I will sometimes go to Starbucks just for that! I feel guilty sometimes just getting a free water, but then I remember how many $4.00 coffees I've purchased from them and I get over it - really quick!
