Headache Cure - Bananas
66Banana's curing a headache?
I woke up yesterday with a terrible headache that wouldn't go away with any pain relievers. I talked to my sister on the phone last night, she had terrible migraines at least once a month for the last year. She told me that in the last two months she has been eating a banana and it will make her headaches go away. She had tried all types of perscription medications for the migraines. I didn't have a banana available to eat yesterday. Today my headache is gone, so I won't know if it works for me but I'm going to remember that for next time. Seems a bit too good to be true. Has anyone else had any luck with bananas?

My sister just told me that she eats one every morning to keep her headaches away.
Many headaches such as migraines can be avoided or reduced in frequency by about 45% if you take 400mg/day of magnesium citrate, which is a more bio-available form of the mineral.
While the headaches are associated with disturbances in the potassium and calcium activity in the brain and its arteries, blood pressure and circulation changes in the brain and often the serotonin levels, taking magnesium corrects these issues about half the time. Magnesium is at the center of over 300 different processes in the body, and is especially important for the brain. While bananas do contain small amounts of potassium, about 7-10% of your daily requirement, a better solution for most people is to take magnesium supplements in the citrate form.
Other supplements include DHA, the omega-3 long chain component of fish oil. Highest levels come from the oil in sardines and anchovies. Look for those fish listed on the label of the fish oil you buy. You should consider using up to 2 or 3 grams of DHA and EPA from fish oil in a healthy diet. This usually requires about 10-12 grams of fish oil, just under one tablespoon per day. DHA works to reduce inflammation, while improving circulation into and out of brain cells, which helps reduce blood pressure problems and improve the overall efficiency of many processes within the cerebral tissues.
Headaches are very complex in their presence can indicate the existence of a life threatening condition such as a tumor or hypertension, stroke, and other serious conditions. You should not ignore headaches that are severe and happen over and over again. Be sure to talk with your physician if headaches become frequent or severe.
I have a migraine right now, and am currently eating a banana in the hope it will kill it.
It can help. Part of the reason is that banana's have a high try
It can help. Part of the reason is that banana's have a high tryptophan to phenylalanine and lucine ratio (unlike many proteins that have a lot of tryptophan but a poor ratio). This increase in tryptophan causes a higher prodocution of serotonin. Serotonin has been shown in studies to eliminate headaches because it blocks their signal from the brain (as well as screening out unwanted noise, also making bananas good for concentration). Other fruits which would have a simiar effect are dates and papaya.
three times now I have eaten half or whole banana and my headache has gone away. I happened on this by accident but I'll keep it up because is seems to work.
I have suffered from migraines and headaches since I was a child and accidentally discovered that eating a banana will help with my headaches, not to mention that they are really good for you ~ probably the best fruit out there. Bananas are athletes favorite choice of fruit. The peeling is also good for rashes (skin irritations), bee stings and also great for polishing/shining shoes! They're also excellent if you have GI problems! So instead of eating an apple a day (to keep the doctor away) try eating a banana!
I eat bananas, they work perfectly so whoever has migrains..eat your headache up with a banana :D
I'll have to give this a try, thanks ya'll.
I suffer from migraines and have been having headaches daily. Migraines are linked to a drop in serotonin levels, and bananas help to increase those levels. Since I discovered this I've been eating a banana as soon as I feel a headache coming on... My headaches go away pretty quickly and no migraines since I started doing this.

Being low in potassium can cause headaches. If bananas are helping, my next step would be to increase the potassium intake thru vegetable drinks (watch the sodium) eating charry tomatoes, etc. for more info on vegetables try this link http://www.level1diet.com Here's to better health! ever onward, Marisue
