Heads Of`Ayr
Since my youngest son's school trip in June to the Heads of Ayr, all we had heard is how fantastic this place is and as if no-one else in the family had been none of us could comment. Yesterday whilst doing my food shopping i decided to buy some picnic stuff and if the weather was nice i would take all of us for a family day out. When the kids were in there bed i made up the picnic food; got the juice, crisps, sweets and biscuits into the cool bag. All i had to do if the weather was nice was make a flask of coffee for Jimmy the Jock and me.
Got up and the weather was fog and slightly raining but not enough to keep you in the house; when i checked what the weather forecast for Ayr in Scotland was to be it said that it was to get out later on and be sunny. Kids and Jimmy were still in bed; so i got the flask of coffee ready and waited for everyone to get up. They were all up and had their breakfasts by 8:30am. Whilst i was in the kitchen Jimmy and i were talking and decided that we were going, with the weather forecast being so good. Kids dress, fuel in the car and off we went to the Heads of Ayr; kids did not have a clue they were going.
Just under and hour later we arrived at the Heads of Ayr and the FUN began.
How To Get To Heads Of Ayr
If you are travelling from Glasgow to the Heads of Ayr, then you follow the A77/M77 to just beyond Ayr, exiting at Alloway turn off (signposted Heads of
Ayr, Haven Craig Tara). Drive through Alloway, followign the signs for the Heads of Ayr, Haven Draig Tara, onto the costal road (A719). Go straight through the roundabout and the Heads of Ayr is another 2 miles down the road on your right hand side.
If you are staying at Haven Craig Tara it is approximately a 10 minute walk from the gates; as they are right next door to each other.
If you are travelling from Stranraer follow the main A77 as far as Turnberry, then exit onto the A719 to experience the amazing optical illusion of the Electric Brae; from ther; Heads of Ayr is another 5 miles down the road on your left hand side
When we arrived you get a wristband once you have paid your admission, to put on each member of the family and you can go in and out of the park to your car all day; this l thought was a great idea as it allowed you to enjoy yourself without having to carry your picnic stuff around all day.
Once we got into the park the kids headed straight for the Adventure Play Barn; it is like an assault course inside. Next to this is the stables, which is home to three beautiful horses; Connie, Belle and sorry i can not remember the name of the third. Next door to this is the Electric DIggers; three trampolines, electric tractors, a big tractor that the kids can play on. Downstairs there is three slides; please note that you need wear socks on these rides. Whilst the kids are having fun you can sit upstairs and watch them, or do what some adults were doing when we were there.............have a go and see why the kids love it. JIMMY DID!!!!!
Whilst you are in this part of the farm go and see the Pets Byre, Guinea Pig Village, Aviary, Reptiles, Monkeys, Mice, Spiders, Snakes, Parrot House (if you say Hello they talk back) and the Animal Petting (it is on at certain times of the day).
And why should the fun sstop there........there is even more fun to be had outside...........................
Buy a bag of animal feed and feed the animals, they are really friendly and there is handwashing facilities throughout the park. We got to give feed to the deers, llamas, Goats, miniature zebu cattle, my favourite the miniature shetland ponies, and the donkeys; i did not know till today that a female donkey is called a "jenny"; and many many more animals. If you are not allowed to feed the animals there will be a notice. But in my option it gives the children a chance to see animals that they may never see again. Once you have seen all the animals the outdoor fun does not need to stop there................
Have a go at welly throwing; tunnels and activity towers; aerial slide; slides; ringo sledging; electric quads, adults and kids quads; quad 'n' barrel ride; jumping pillows and trampolines. And let the kids dig for tokens in their giant sand pit - buckets and spades are supplied. Jimmy and l went on the jumping pillows and trampolines with the kids; so us big kids can have fun too
In total i recommend Heads of Ayr to any family for a fantastic day out.
