my mother used that 1 too Dalene, without the sock though i should have remembered lol because the menthol smell lasted for days afterwords.....jimmy
This was interesting. I wonder if certain spices stimulate the immune system to act. I read years ago that people use bee stings to heal arthritis.
Thanks livelonger, talking about bee stings reminds me that the bread poultice is also good for drawing out the poison from them too,
people laugh at some of the old remedies, but alot of them do work take leeches for example, years ago they were used in medicine, today they are becoming very popular in healing burn victims and people with wound infections.
Another one that your readers might be interested in, and it works extremely well, is a remedy for mosquito, spider or other bites. As soon as you are bitten, cut a slice of onion and rub it on the bite for a few minutes - or - mince up a piece of onion, and using the minced onion juice with the minced onion, apply it to the bite and hold on bite with plam of hand for five or ten minutes. It will take away the itch and reduce the size and redness of the bite. Later, if it begins to itch again, do the same thing again. Much better than the over-the-counter commercial anti-itch ointments.
thanks for sharing that one dalene.....jimmy
These are interesting, and more so, as we were talking about them at home recently. My grandson, had what we thought, was a little mosquito bite gone sceptic. We applied sunlight soap and sugar to a plaster, expecting everything to be drawn out overnight. It turned out to be a tick bite, maybe thats why nothing happened. My mum insisted the onion poultice is best.
Good info. I'm a big believer in natural healing methods.
Oh Jimmy, thank you for the shout. You have so many good hubs that I haven´t been able to find them all :D . Great hub with healthy tips.
A hub with great information. It is a fact that the vegetables we eat daily not only nourish our body, but also cure many of the common diseases.

Great information. My Gramie used poultice as home remedies. The only one I remember not liking was the one she used for sore throats and colds. Menthol ointment applied to the chest and throat area and then a woolen sock over the ointment on the throat area. It was very itchy.
