Health Benefits of Drinking Tea

First let me begin by saying that tea does NOT contain more caffeine than coffee.

8 oz. - Coffee, Brewed contains 80-135mg caffeine

8 oz. - Tea, brewed, European brands (avg.) - 60mg caffeine

8 oz. - Tea, brewed, U.S. brands (avg.) - 40mg caffeine

vs.

8 oz. - Tea, green - 15mg caffeine

That being said, there are debates about what properties of tea may contribute to health benefits, if any.

If you are under the agreement that tea does tout benefits, then it is not only green tea, but black (basic everyday drinking tea) or red (oolong) tea as well. Green tea simply is less processed.

Green tea is a good amount of antioxidants, it's good for your teeth because it helps prevent gingivits and has a small amount of caffeine, so even one cup of it won't keep you up. Iced green tea is good as well! If the tea goes cold, you can re-heat, it should be fine, or stick some ice-cubes and enjoy!

Relax your mind..give you serenity..herbal benefis fo your body..using it to treat everything from headaches to depression....to sum up, here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful:

* cancer

* rheumatoid arthritis

* high cholesterol levels

* cariovascular disease

* infection

* impaired immune function

Green tea can even help prevent tooth decay! Just as its bacteria-destroying abilities can help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacteria that causes dental plaque. Meanwhile, skin preparations containing green tea - from deodorants to creams - are starting to appear on the market.

Benefits:

1) It's allkalizing in the body and tissues, which is a very good thing, as so many of us are way too acid. 2) Tea is a powerful antioxidant. 3) It's calming and soothing, especially as opposed to coffee, which at best is "energising" and nerve jangling...4) Tea is good for things like upset stomachs, illnesses like flus and colds, and very good against menstrual cramps and diarrhea. 5) It's a very good way to keep hydrated.

"Nutrients

Chinese tea contains essential vitamins and minerals. For example, vitamin B complex which helps carbohydrate and fat metabolism, and helps moisturise the skin. It is also a source of natural fluoride which helps in preventing cavities in teeth. Also vitamin C which prevents colds and flu.

Antioxidants

The greatest health benefits in Chinese tea are attributed to the natural antioxidants it contains. Antioxidants are substances capable of neutralising harmful cell by-products called free radicals. Free radicals, formed when oxygen is metabolised or burned by the body, travel through the cell causing damage; this is believed to contribute to various health problems.

Specifically, some of the antioxidants in tea are carotenoids, which enhance the immune system, flavonoids (polyphenols), which lower blood cholesterol and strengthen blood vessel walls, and vitamin E which can reduce the signs of ageing."

Thanks for tea info. I like tea but I've been ignoring it for a long time. Guess it's time to start drinking it again.

One more reason to stick to "that" cup of tea :) I must say that I did not know that the caffeine content was so high, thanks for the info.
