Health Care for Children : A Universal Need
57
I recently got an email from a friend I had not spoken with in some time. It was a set of photos comparing children in normal healthy environments with those in drought ridden and poor areas.
The stark contrast between the chubby rose cheeked kids and the dry gaunt expressions on the hungry children's faces were a study in itself. I knew just why my friend was compelled to send that email forward to all her friends.
That it moved me no end is obvious, and I got to thinking about how we spoil our children while others struggle to save body and soul. I tried to imagine how helpless that mother of the child whose ribs are protruding must feel. I saw my baby in place of hers and it shook me.
There is enough to go around in the world, yet there is such paucity in some areas. What can be done? There are enough agencies world wide who are trying to help the children who are underprivileged. One can always volunteer time or give money to them. They do need all the help that they can get.
Think global, act local.
On a personal level you can collect any underprivileged children around you and give them a boost. Health is often neglected and vaccines and medication are never given to them as the parents lack the money to buy them. You can take these kids to the doctor and get them check ups and injections.
Naturally do as much as you can afford financially. If you have a doctor friend rope him or her into your campaign. There are government hospitals at which the vaccinations are available at discounted rates. Some are even provided free. Make it your mission to bring these facilities to the poor kids in your area or city.
Stock up on basic medication. A fever, cough or cold are common ailments that all kids go through. Keep these medicines handy at home to hand out to parents of children who are sick. I used to get a lot of homeopathy pills and keep them handy. Kids prefer the sugar pills to bitter syrups and they are as effective in minor ailments.
Children should not have to suffer ever. Make health care available to them. They are the future of this world. Care for them today so that the future is bright.

Its not just about money, but also about actual human will and effort towards the problem.
There is so much exploitation in this global world. While people had the means to enjoy the most basic foods of their environment at one time, this has been taken away by corporations wanting to control their land and resources - America is a guilty culprit. Africa for example shouldn't be called 'poor' it should be called what it is 'overexploited' - for gold, diamonds, platinum, oil, etc. It sustained the British and American economies for centuries.
Here in the US children are going hungry, suffering the consequences and given pharmaceuticals instead of nutrition. Our food supply has been taken over by a few corporations who are feeding us processed garbage, GM vegetables and fruits, toxic meat and poultry, etc.. We are getting fatter but our body is starving - a different kind of starvation that results in obesity and chronic poor health. We think if we don't see skin and bones then we are not starving.
Thanks for this hub! Just a few are getting very wealthy at the expense of millions. No mother should watch her child die from lack.
Free Children's health care should be free or at least affordable in every country.
BKCreative, the lack of money is a horrible thing. The utter helplessness that such a mother feels must be pure horror. No wonder there is such a hollow look in the eyes of people photographed in such situations.
Princessa, you got me seconding that sentiment.
I agree with your hub, good job!
While I was researching my hub I learned that President Truman was the first to propose health care for children. It hard to imagine this many years later, it still is part of the debate.
Really it should have been done ages ago, but its sad that we still are struggling to provide basic health care to our own kids.
Informative.

Yes, poverty should have been wiped out a long time agon. There are people, and quite a lot, who not only swimming in money but drowning. That money they could give they wouldn't even miss it and could do so much if not the lot.
