Parasitic worms are more common in underdeveloped countries than in the
US. However, there're more than a quarter of the world's population
that had a parasitic worms infection at some point in their life. This
can happen if you travel oversea and are ingesting foods that can be
harmful.
Hygiene is poorer in underdeveloped country and the
chance of infection is higher. Tapeworm can be found in the intestines
of people in underdeveloped country. Most of us have seen the photo of
parasitic worms and they are invertebrate with long, circular or
flattened out bodies.
They have classified 3 types of worms that are
parasitic and can infect human, animal and plants: Cestodes or
tapeworm, Trematodes (schistosoma), and Nematodes or round worms,
hookworm or whipworm.
Parasitic worms can enter the human body
through undercooked meat like wild fish, pig meat and cow flesh,
unfiltered water, mosquito attacks and contact with waste. This
condition is more common in South Asia and Africa where personal
hygiene is low. Worms can be treated at home by using antihelminitics
such as diethylcarbamazine, mebendazole, benzimidazoles, praziquantel,
ivermectin, and albendazole. Operation can take place also to remove
the worm from the host.
The worms condition can be improve if
you practice great hygiene like cooked meat and all food throughouly,
wash your hands before you eat or cook, cut your fingernail and scrub
it, shower daily, wear fresh clothes, and keep a clean bathroom. These
practices will avoid worm eggs from breeding. When you travel to other
foreign country you might want to avoid street food and certain street
drinks. People in underdeveloped country carries more diseases with a
lesser chance for treatment than people in the US if you'll be having contacts with them.
